FRAMINGHAM, MA – Roadwork on several major capital improvement projects in town will continue this week, (Monday through Friday, June 20 – 24, 2011).

Major delays due to backed up traffic and detours around some of the work sites can add to driving times, so motorists should plan accordingly.

The Town of Framingham Department of Public Works / Highway Division / Capital Projects website offers residents and visitors to Framingham helpful information about current and upcoming construction projects.

  • Framingham Blizzard Warning – December 26,2010

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Town of Framingham’s automated emergency phone system dialed town residents twice today.

The first call was to announce that the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for today — from noon on Sunday, December 26, 2010 until Monday, December 27 at 6:00pm, and the town could expect 15″ to 20″ snow.

Residents were advised that there would be no parking on all artierial roads, (which are posted with red and white signs).  Also, the call advised that although standard odd/even parking was in effect for all non-arterial roads, that residents were advised to seek off street parking as vehicles will be towed if they interfere with plowing operations.

A second call came advising residents that no trash pickup would occur on Monday December 27, 2010, and reminding residents not to place trash or recycling recepticles on the curb (as snow cleanup will likely still be taking place).

Monday would have been a heavy trash day as it will be the first scheduled trash pickup day after Christmas.  In past years, before the phone alert system was in place and used for such notices some residents would put trash out that would not get picked up, and it would either hinder snow plowing — or barrels were hit by plows causing a mess, (needless to say, the barrels did not fare well).

Trash and recycle schedules are moved up by one day, (e.g.- if your trash was to go out Monday, it should be put out Tuesday instead — if your regular day is Tuesday, put it out Wednesday, etc).

If you have questions or problems regarding either snow removal or trash pickup, contact the Framingham Department of Public Works, (Highway Division or Solid Waste Division), at (508) 532-6030.

For (non-emergency) issues related to parking during the storm, (vehicle blocking a street, parking questions, etc),  contact the Framingham Police at (508) 872-1212.

  • Framingham Police Program Receives Award

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention recently recognized the Framingham Police Department with a Leadership in Suicide Prevention Award.

The award was presented at the State House by Rep. Ruth Balser, D-Newton, to Sarah Abbot, director of the Jail Diversion Program, along with Lt. Paul Shastany, and Deputy Chief Craig Davis.

The Jail Diversion Program helps people with mental illnesses to avoid jail and go into programs that can help them. Framingham Police recognize that many people need help, not a jail cell, to correct their behavior.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The New England Classic is a fund-raising bike ride which left Framingham on July 12, 1997 for a week-long trek accross the New England states, (MA, ME, NH, and VT). The group rode an average of 80 miles per day, spending most nights on college campuses along the route.

A total of about 60 riders made the trip, along with a dozen volunteers including EMTs, mechanics, and average people interested in helping to support efforts to find a cure for diabetes. Volunteers also supplied and drove five vehicles to carry gear and watch out for the rider’s safety.

The riders pedaled from the starting point in Framingham (MA) to Durham (NH) then on to Gorham (ME), and Bretton Woods (NH), through Montpelier (VT), Killington (VT), Ringe (NH) then returned to Framingham (MA) for a total of approximately 550 miles!

Along with the ordinary touring style bikes, one rider, Bill Goodwin made the entire ride on a recumbent bike, (the type you sit back in and the pedals are in the front of the bike). Goodwin not only covered the 550 miles on this bike, but added to the trip logging a total of 673 miles.

Congratulations and thanks should be given to all who rode or volunteered to help —- pledges and sponsorship of the The New England Bike Classic raised approximately $50,000 which will go to the ADA to help find a cure for Diabetes.
