  • Attorney General OK’s Downtown Framingham Rezoning Plan

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey today approved plans by the Town of Framingham to rezone its Central Business District, Downtown Framingham. The rezoning plans were approved on October 21, 2015 by Special Town Meeting members. Town officials see the rezoning as critical to encouraging transit-oriented development (TOD) in Downtown Framingham, and will move their efforts forward to encourage this kind of residential development.

    “Downtown Framingham is poised to reclaim its title as an important walkable, urban center for economic development in MetroWest and Greater Boston,” said Charlie Sisitsky, Chair of Framingham’s Board of Selectmen. “The Town of Framingham is excited to offer in Metrowest an urban living experience to people who may be attracted to the Town’s small-town atmosphere and convenient proximity to Boston.     Framingham Public Access TV to produce new News Magazine style show this spring.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – If you have ever wanted to learn about television news, or how to produce stories for newscasts and longer-form magazine shows, FPAC, (Framingham Public Access Corporation), invites you to be part of a brand new, Framingham-focused series.

    This spring, FPAC will be unveiling a new initiative to provide a regularly scheduled news magazine program to our viewers. Each program will rely on the talents and efforts of FPAC members and interns who can act as reporters, shooters, segment producers, and other vital roles.

    With that in mind, we’ll be holding a news production workshop series in May in which we will teach students the basics of how to report, shoot and produce packages for television news.

    Whether you are interested in covering community events, creating a segment on arts or dining, or doing a series of reports on an important town-wide issue, this workshop will give you the basic skills to get started.

    The three-session workshop will start Thursday, May 5th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, and will continue for the next two Thursday evenings, (the 12th and 19th).

    During the course of this workshop each participant will be working on news/feature packages that will be included in the premiere edition of FPAC’s new series, which will be produced on Wednesday, May 25th.

    Framingham Neighbor Brigade – ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’ Network Provides Helping Hand for Local Residents in Crisis

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Tapping into the nation’s growing spirit of volunteerism, Neighbor Brigade, today announced the launch of its Framingham chapter, adding to its proven “neighbors helping neighbors” network.

    With chapters throughout New England, Neighbor Brigade is a non-profit organization that transforms local communities into caring centers where volunteers are mobilized to help their neighbors during times of crisis.

    Unlike existing for-profit family support services, Framingham Neighbor Brigade is made up of neighborhood volunteers and is completely free of charge. Using the most current Web-based community-building tools, Neighbor Brigade helps supplement where immediate family and friends cannot cover the day-to-day household needs of those experiencing a sudden family tragedy, trauma or critical illness, such as providing local rides, preparing meals and running small errands.     FRAMINGHAM, MA – For more than two decades, professionals involved with infection control have dedicated one week of the year as “Infection Prevention Week“. Originally the week was spent educating others in health care about the importance of reducing the spread of germs and infection.

    When Andrei Soran, (CEO of Metrowest Medical Center), got together with  Bonnie Biocchi, (President of the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce), during the 2010 Infection Prevention Week, they got the idea to promote the importance of hand washing — not only to healthcare professionals, but to the community at large.

    Using social networking and online media the pair got a Flashmob together, and here’s what they came up with:

    What a great use of social networking, music, line-dancing and fun to promote something that could keep us all a little healthier, (especially as we head into the cold and flu season).

    Pepsi to the rescue! Through it’s “Refresh Everything” webiste, Pepsi is offering grants ranging from $5K to $250k each month for projects “which are intended to improve communities through an online, democratic voting process”.

  • Framingham Community Gardeners Meet

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham Community Gardeners will be meeting on the 1st Monday of the month from 6 to 8 pm in the Costin Room of the Framingham Public Library.

    Our next gathering will be Monday, February 1st.

    Framingham community members and friends will gather to share recent progress toward having a community garden in Framingham in 2010, as well as projects for gardens in 2011.

    These different projects range from existing gardens to gardens which are still in the initial envisioning stages. They also vary in terms of location, size and participants. There will be the opportunity to make suggestions, and get involved. Because there are now multiple projects in the works, this monthly gathering will be for networking, coordinating and sharing. Everyone is welcome!

    We will also discuss wider initiatives such as the Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN), which has a chapter in Sudbury and which has provided grant funding for projects like our community garden project.

    Feel free to bring children, share a potluck dinner and envision gardening in the Spring sunshine!
