    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project is planning to use a truck mounted aerosol sprayer to control mosquito populations in Framingham on Thursday, July 20th, 2023.

    The spraying will take place in the South Framingham, including the Coburnville-Tripoli neighborhoods. Spraying route includes areas located south of Waverly Street near Fay Road, Bethany Road, Winthrop Street, Hollis Street, Irving Street, Bates Road, Hickory Hill Lane, Jodie Road, (and many other side-streets and smaller roads in same area).

    Framingham Medical Reserve Corps Seeking Volunteers

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham Medical Reserve Corps unit needs new volunteers, especially nurses, and doctors.

    Created after Sept 11, 2001, the Medical Reserve Corps is a federally-recognized and state-supported “community-based group of volunteers who assist local public health departments to promote healthy living as well as to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergency events.”

    Massachusetts currently has 12 units across the Commonwealth.

    Here in Framingham, the Medical Reserve Corps can be seen assisting at vaccine clinics and providing a first-aid tent at events like the Framingham Farmers’ Market and the 2023 Farm Pond fireworks.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published information on June 21, 2023 about a “Voluntary Recall of Specific Frozen Fruit Products Due to Possible Contamination by Listeria monocytogenes“.

    The recall by Sunrise Growers Inc (a subsidiary of SunOpta Inc) includes frozen fruit packaged under several brand names for several grocery retailers.

    Canadian Wildfires Cause Poor Air Quality in Framingham

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is alerting people in parts of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont regarding air quality that is unhealthy for sensitive groups, due to elevated concentrations of fine particle air pollution due to wildfires in Quebec and Northern Ontario.

    Hazy skies, reduced visibility, and the odor of burning wood is very likely as the smoke plumes move through Framingham and the greater New England region.

    Framingham Board of Health Votes to Rescind Mask Mandates

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — At a special meeting requested by Mayor Charlie Sisitsky, the Framingham Board of Health (BOH) voted Tuesday to ratify the Mayor’s decision to rescind two Executive Orders mandating masks, effective at 12:01 am on March 7, 2022.

    The current Joint Executive Order #EO2022-001, designed to decrease the surge of the COVID Omicron variant, has remained in effect since January 14. It requires mandatory wearing of masks by staff and customers aged two (2) and over in municipal buildings and all public indoor establishments in the City of Framingham.

    Framingham Board of Health to Meet 2/22/22 to Discuss Vote on Mask Mandate Order

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — At the request of Mayor Charlie Sisitsky, a Special Meeting of the Framingham Board of Health has been posted for February 22, 2022, to discuss the duration of the current Joint Executive Order mandating masks inside public establishments and to potentially vote on a date to rescind the Order.

    At the Special Meeting, which is open to the public via zoom, the Board may consider the draft of a new Joint Executive Order, which calls for rescinding the current mask mandates for indoor public spaces and municipal buildings effective at 12:01 am on March 7, 2022.

    Blood Pressure Meds Recalled Due to Cancer Causing Impurity

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Batches of Irbesartan Tablets and Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets made by Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. are being recalled due to concern with cancer causing impurities in the medication.

    Testing of the drug during manufacturing revealed an impurity which called “N-nitrosoirbesartan” which is a probable human carcinogen (a substance that could cause cancer).

    Lupin is recalling all batches of Irbesartan Tablets USP 75mg, 150mg and 300mg and Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets USP, 150mg/12.5mg and 300mg/12.5mg in the US.

    Framingham Sewer Smoke Testing begins September 1st, 2021

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham Department of Public Works will begin conducting Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing Wednesday, September 1st, to investigate sources of rainwater and groundwater (inflow and infiltration) that are entering the sanitary sewer system.

    The entire testing program is expected to take one month to complete and will be conducted by engineering consultant, Weston & Sampson.

    According to the FraminghamMA.gov website, “Smoke testing is a common practice that involves blowing air and a non-toxic, non-staining smoke into the sanitary sewer system in the street and monitoring where the smoke escapes.”

    Framingham BioTech Company Uses AI to Improve Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — BERG, a clinical-stage biotech that employs patient biology and artificial intelligence (AI) to research diseases and develop innovative treatments and diagnostics, recently announced the publication of a new study, entitled “Clinical utility of a serum biomarker panel in distinguishing prostate cancer from benign prostate hyperplasia [BPH]” in Scientific Reports.

    As part of the study, BERG evaluated over 750 patients at geographically diverse medical centers in the U.S. and Canada, where they applied the biomarker panel, comprised of filamin-A (FLNA), age and prostate volume, to predict and stratify men with BPH from those with PCa.
