FRAMINGHAM, MA – Like many Framingham residents, Dwight Woytowick had ice dam problems this past winter. Unlike those who got the snow and ice off their roof before damage occurred, the ice dams on Dwight’s home caused $50k damage.

Woytowick’s 4000 square foot home which sits on nearly an acre of land off Singletary Lane near the reservoir behind Macomber Estates is valued by the Town at just under $500k.  According to records, the home has been in Woytowick’s family for 20 years, and was transferred into his name in 2001.

Current with his mortgage, and fully insured, Woytowick put in a claim with his insurance company.  They promptly cut (more…)

    “Thanks for Giving” Fund Raiser

    Thanks for Giving
For the last 21 years, Mark and Karen Curtis who run the Eagles Grill in downtown Framingham have provided a free Thanksgiving meal to all who need or want one-last year it was over 1,200 meals. They even deliver 450 meals to shut-ins on that day as well. Over the years, they have not solicited donations. This is the first year that some local churches have had to discontinue offering their Thanksgiving meals, and the Salvation Army has canceled their free Thanksgiving dinner as well. Please help support The Eagles Kitchen Thanksgiving Dinner!

FRAMINGHAM, MA – From November 15, 2010 until November 25, 2010 framingham.com is running a “Thanks for Giving” fund-raising special.

To help support The Eagles Kitchen Thanksgiving Dinner, and to promote Framingham businesses we are giving 50% OFF standard ad rates for all advertising orders placed this week if the advertiser donates the remaining 50% to help fund the dinner.

Here’s how it works: Any local business that orders online advertising on framingham.com during the “Thanks for Giving” promotion will get a 50% discount off standard published rates, then the business sends a check or money order payable to “Eagles Kitchen Thanksgiving Dinner” for the other 50%.

For example: If an advertiser chose a $720/yr package, they would get that package for 50% OFF — making the cost only $360, (for a full year of advertising — that’s less than $1.00 a day!)

If you own a Framingham business, or know someone who does, let them know about the “Thanks for Giving” promotion. (more…)

  • 1955 Hurricane Diane Floods Saxonville

The Great Falls at Saxonville, as water from 1955's Hurricane Diane pounds its way over the falls.
The Great Falls at Saxonville, as water from 1955’s Hurricane Diane pounds its way over the falls.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — A preliminary report about hurricane DIANE  from the U.S. Weather Bureau begins to tell the story of how more than a foot of water fell on Framingham one week during the summer of 1955.

“Hurricane DIANE was first detected Over the Atlantic Ocean on August 11, 1955, about 400 miles northeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico. With winds of 50 to 60 mph over a small area near the center, DIANE moved in a northwesterly to northerly direction for about 24 hours. On August 12th, DIANE drifted slowly toward the north and northeast and increased in intensity to a full huricane, with winds of 115 mph near the center.”

What the report only touches on, and the residents of Saxonville found out all too well, is the fact that DIANE hit the northeast on the heals of hurricane CONNIE, a storm which had hit 5 days earlier dumping 5″ – 10″ inches of rain in a single day.
