The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double to right from Gwendolyn Carpenter.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham State University softball team received a pair of victories from Ally Moran as the Rams swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader with Fitchburg State at Maple Street Field in Framingham. The Rams took the opener 8-1 before coming from behind for a 3-2 victory in game two.
In the opener, Moran went six innings allowing one unearned run on one hit with six strikeouts. Emily Strzegowski tossed an inning of scoreless relief to close the game for the Rams.
The Rams extended the lead to 6-0 with five in the bottom of the third. Mercedes Jimenez plated a run with a sacrifice fly and a second run scored on the play on an error. Zoe Smyth followed with a two-run single to right and Morgan Poli added an RBI single.
The Falcons got on the board in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Audrey Johnson.
The Rams capped the scoring in the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brooke Grassia scored on an error and Jimenez added an RBI single.
Carpenter finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Jimenez and Smyth each drove in two.
The Falcons received a pair of hits from Johnson in the game.
In game two, Moran earned her second victory of the day tossing a complete game. Moran went seven innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with 10 strikeouts including the final out of the game.
The Falcons got on the board first as capitalized on a Rams error in the top of the second inning.
The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Ally Gruca reached on a fielder’s choice.
The Rams scored two in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. Shelby Roode delivered and RBI single to left center and Jimenez doubled to left and an error in the outfield allowed Roode to score on the play.
The Falcons rallied in the top of the seventh and an RBI double to right by Ella Marshall cut the deficit to 3-2 with two out, but that was as close as they would get as Moran ended the game with a strikeout.
The two teams current MASCAC records are: Framingham State (14-12, 7-1), Fitchburg State (14-13, 4-4)
The Rams are back in action on Friday April 22, 2022 when they travel to MCLA for a pair of MASCAC games at 2 p.m.
