FRAMINGHAM, MA – Today the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) extended the deadline to update your Massachusetts (or other state) ID or Drivers License to a “Real ID” to May 3rd, 2023.
Prior to today’s extension, Real ID was to be required to fly within the United States or enter federal buildings after October 1st, 2021.
Real ID’s from Massachusetts as well as all other states will have a star in the upper right corner and other identification and security features.
To get a Real ID, in addition to basic requirements, (for a Mass ID or Drivers License) you’ll need to provide additional documents such as a Passport, Social Security Card, Birth Certificate, any Legal Name Change documents (if applicable) and a other “proof of residence” documents such as a mortgage, lease or recent utility bill in your name at your address.
