NOTICE: Most of the activities, special programs and events listed below require signing up or advance reservation, (unless otherwise noted). Please do so in advance so activities can be scheduled effectively and in the appropriate space.

Tuesday, November 8th from 9:30 – 10:00 AM – New Member Orientation Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month. If you have just joined Callahan you might want to attend one of these meetings as we enjoy coffee and pastry, answer your questions and seek your input on activities.

PROGRAMS & EVENTS
Monday, November 7th at 2:30 pm in Blais Room – Boomers & Beyond Dance – to benefit the Friends of Callahan. Donation is $2.00. Refreshments will be available.

Monday, November 14th at 1:30 pm – The Friends of Callahan will hold their general meeting with entertainment provided by Judy Capone with “Memories by Judy”, a musical performance. Refreshments will be served.

Tuesday, November 22nd at 1:00 PM – Armchair Travel – Each month, through the wonders of a DVD, we are traveling in the comfort of the Blais Room to a new and unique site. Sit back in an ARMCHAIR- enjoy the dramatic and entertaining sights of the world without spending a NICKEL! We will travel the world learning about the food and customs of many places.

Monday, November 21 at 11:00 AM – Framingham Garden Club will demonstrate and supply you with the necessary items to make a lovely Thanksgiving arrangement. The cost is $5 per person and you will take home a gorgeous creation of your own doing! Join the group and begin creating!

Medicare Open Enrollment is Changing! New Dates: OCTOBER 15 – DECEMBER 7 The Medicare Open Enrollment ends on December 7! DO NOT WAIT UNTIL IT’S TOO LATE! Trained SHINE (Serving Health Information Needs of Elders) volunteers offer free, confidential counseling on all aspects of health insurance to anyone on Medicare. Call your senior center and ask for a SHINE appointment. You can also call 1-800-AGE-INFO (1-800-243-4636), then press or say 3. Once you get the SHINE answering machine, leave your name and number. A volunteer will call you back, as soon as possible. For assistance from a Medicare customer service representative 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, call 1-800-MEDICARE.

Heart for the Holidays is a 6-week Bereavement Support Group geared especially for those who have experienced loss of a loved one. Come and be with others. Educational materials and healing rituals will be provided at each session. The group will meet on November 9, 16, & 30th and December 7, 14 and 28th from 2:30-4:00 pm. Susan Moriarty, LICSW from MetroWest Meds will be presenting on Wednesday, November 16th at 10:00 am. The program is designed for under-insured individuals to access medications through pharmaceutical company prescription drug programs. This DOES NOT take the place of a SHINE appointment. Susan will be available after her talk to answer questions. Please contact Lisa for more details at ext. 4108. No sign up is required.

HOME ENERGY & FUEL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Home Energy & Fuel Assistance Program 2011 – Callahan Center will process NEW Fuel Assistance applications for Framingham, 60+ residents only. Please call the front desk to schedule an appointment. We do not have 2011 income limits yet. Last year’s 2010 were: 1 person household = $30,751. and 2 person household = $40,213.

FRIENDS’ LUNCHEON
Wednesday, 30th at 11:30 am – Friends’ Luncheon. There is only one seating at 11:30 am. The cost is $4.00 per person. You must stop by the front desk or call the Callahan Center at 508-532-5980 to make your reservation by the Friday prior to the luncheon. No exceptions and no refunds. Lunch will be provided by Mark Curtis of the American Eagles Grille.

Volunteer Outreach Services Corner
We need individuals to assist residents in the following ways:
- Telephone Reassurance – briefly call elder residents daily to inquire of well being.
- Medical Appointment Escort Transport – drive elder residents to appointments.
- Food Shopping Assistance – shop for grocery and other household items.
- Friendly Visiting – visit elder residents periodically providing friendly contact.

Contract Bridge Players Wanted: A fun group of bridge players is looking to expand its group. We meet each Tuesday, year round. Play is from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Come alone or bring a friend. You will always get to play.
