FRAMINGHAM, MA — You Are Invited to a MetroWest Forum on Economic Reform and Senate Bill 2270.

On February 8, 2010, Senator Karen Spilka (D-Ashland), the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies, and Senate President Therese Murray filed Senate Bill 2270, An Act to Promote Economic Development Throughout the Commonwealth. This bill seeks to streamline the state’s approach to economic development and create a more stable and consistent environment for businesses.

Senate Bill 2270 creates a new MetroWest Tourism and Visitors Bureau, designed to highlight the region while reinvesting its tourism-related revenue in MetroWest. It also creates a new model of ‘one stop shopping’ for businesses wishing to grow, locate or remain in Massachusetts. To provide a boost to small businesses, it reduces costs and creates a more favorable climate for entrepreneurship. The bill also increases accountability and oversight of state agencies, quasi-publics and the state’s contracts with private organizations while eliminating out-of-date agencies and the duplication of services.

Senator Spilka, along with the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies and the MetroWest Legislative Caucus, is holding a forum to give MetroWest businesses and other interested parties the opportunity to comment on this bill as it makes its way through the legislative process.
