FRAMINGHAM, MA — Whereas the purpose of the Human Relations Commission is “to establish affirmative action programs to insure equal enforcement of law, and equal protection of law, for all groups regardless of race, color, religious creed, sex, age, handicap, national origin or ancestry,” the Commission will host a forum dealing with legal services provided within our Community.
As a follow-up to its previous forums dealing with homelessness, mental health issues, and the Jail Diversion Program, the Commission will provide a forum dealing with legal services as provided by MetroWest Legal Services.
As their mission is “to provide legal advocacy to protect and advance the rights of the poor, elderly, disabled and other disenfranchised people in our service area in obtaining legal, social, and economic justice,” it is the hope of the Commission to enlighten people within our Community of legal services which are available.
Speakers at the forum will address such topics as eviction defense, homeless advocacy, government benefits (unemployment), Special Education, and domestic violence. The forum will be held on March 12, 2009 at the Memorial Building, in the Ablondi Room, beginning at 7:00pm.
There will be a question and answer period following the presentations. The meeting is open to the public and all interested parties are encouraged to attend. For further information contact Bob Anspach, Chair, at bobanspach@aol.com, or call 774-279-2796.
