FLU CLINIC INFORMATION

On Wednesday, November 19th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Callahan Center on Union Avenue, the Board of Health will provide flu (and pneumonia and/or tetanus if indicated). This clinic is for Framingham seniors only. There are no charges for the flu shot, however if you have one of the following insurance companies, please bring your card with you:

– Tufts Health Plan Medicare Preferred
– First Seniority ( Harvard Pilgrim Health Care)
– Fallon Senior Plan (Fallon Community Health Plan)
– Medicare PPO Blue (Blue cross Blue Shield of MA)

Bereavement Support Group: Mondays, November 3, 10, 17 & 24 at 10:00 am.
‘Better Breathers’ Support Group: Wednesday, November 12 at 12:00 noon.
Caregivers’ Support Group: Tuesday, November 25 at 10:30 am. (Please note date change due to the Veterans’ Day holiday.)
Diabetes Support Group: Tuesday, November 25 at 10:00 am.
Grandparent Support Group: Group meets last Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm.
Low Vision Group: Friday, November 21 at 1:00 pm.
Massage Therapy: Thursday, November 6, by appt. only.
Parkinson’s Support Group: Tuesday, November 18 at 1:30 pm.
Podiatry: Wed., November 12 with Dr. John 12:30 – 4:00 pm and Wed., November 26 with Dr. Lukoff from 1:00 – 3:30 pm, by appt. only. (When there is a 5-week month, Dr. Lukoff will be at the Center on the last Wednesday of the month.)
Stroke Survivors’ Support Group: Monday, November 3 at 1:00 pm.

“Preparing For The Unexpected”

Disasters can strike quickly and without warning. The American Red Cross “Preparing for the Unexpected” presentation provides vital information to help people and their families prevent, prepare for, and cope with emergencies. It follows the three components of the “Be Red Cross Ready” campaign: Get a kit….. Make a plan….. Be informed! We discuss what items should be included in a disaster supplies kit, how to set up a communications plan, and how to be better informed before and during disaster situations. Please call the Callahan Center at 508-532-5980 to sign up no later than Monday, November 10th!

The Framingham Garden Club will be at the Callahan Center on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 10:00 am to assist with an arrangement for Thanksgiving! The Framingham Garden Club will be at the Callahan Center on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 10:00 am to assist with something festive for the December holidays! (Please sign up by Wednesday, December 3rd.)
Seating is limited to 15. Donation required is $5.00 per class, to cover some of the cost of materials. Please bring your own scissors.
In an effort to show support for our troops, we have a list of items that are welcomed by our troops abroad. If you would like to add to the box we will send from the Seniors & Staff of the Callahan Center, please drop off your item(s) in the box at the reception desk no later than Monday, November 24th. The USO will pick up the box and mail it to the troops.

Callahan Center in Partnership with Framingham State College Lifelong Learners presents “The ‘Look’ of the Twenties” with Willy Garver on November 12, 2008 at 10:00 am at Callahan Center. $7.00 Donation required (Please sign up by Friday, November 7th.)
Using a PowerPoint presentation, artist Willy Garver plans to present a lecture/discussion of the paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts of that fabulous decade. Born in Holland, painter Willy Garver has lived in many places throughout the world. She received her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Curtin University in West Australia. She has worked and exhibited in Australia, Holland, Switzerland, and France. Recently, she moved to Acton, MA where she continues to paint. She exhibits her works at the Concord Art Center and at other local venues.

FRIENDS OF CALLAHAN UPDATE – The next general meeting of the Friends of Callahan will be on Monday, November 10th, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the Callahan Center. Entertainment will be a “Talent Show” provided by Ilse and Friends. Refreshments will be served. Please come and bring a friend!
WANTED: Contract Bridge Players – A fun group of contract Bridge players meet each Tuesday, year-round. Check-in time is 8:45 am. We play from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Come alone or bring a friend!
