FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Corrections is looking for teachers to volunteer to meet with mothers at MCI-Framingham about their children and the importance of education in their lives.
MCI-Framingham is a medium security correctional facility for female offenders, located in Framingham, Massachusetts. It is noted as the oldest female correctional institution in operation in the United States. In addition to meeting the security needs of a medium security facility, MCI-Framingham provides numerous program and treatment opportunities including mental health, medical, substance abuse, and family services, as well as educational, vocational, library, religious, recreational, and community service programs.
The majority of female offenders at MCI-Framingham are mothers of school-aged children, kindergarten through high school. MCI-Framingham is interested in commencing a program that will bring into the facility teachers of all grade levels to speak to the incarcerated mothers about the importance of sustaining and motivating themselves and their children to be successful in school. Topics include and are not limited to, the importance of nutrition (breakfast / snacks), homework, hygiene, reading comprehension, parent teacher conferences and communication, etc.
