FRAMINGHAM, MA– Nobody can blame Paul Ashton, he’s made more of an effort than most to keep the small business he operates in the Nobscot Shopping Center alive — waiting, hoping for an economic rebound, or at least some signs of life.
On Thursday July 28th, Ashton, owner of Annie’s Book Stop & Espresso Paulo sent out a press release, regretfully announcing he is closing up shop.
Although he hasn’t set an exact closing date, starting Friday, July 29th, he will be holding an “Everything Must Go” sale.
In his press release, Ashton commented, “Obviously I feel quite sad about this. The book store has been in this plaza for over 20 years, and I have owned it since 2000. As other booksellers, both new and used, have found, book-buyer habits have changed significantly in recent years.”

FRAMINGHAM, MA – Students in the Framingham High School “Photo 2” program will have their works on display at Annie’s Book Stop / Espresso Paulo, (in the Nobscot Shopping Center, Water St., Framingham), for the month of January 2011.
The juried exhibit of approximately 40 original framed photos are the works of FHS upperclassmen enrolled in Rebecca Cauchon’s second year photography program at the high school.
On January 16, 2010, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM a reception for the student photographers will be held, at which time the judges’ decisions for juried photos will be announced as well as a “People’s Choice” award.
Photos by the following FHS students will be included in the exhibit: Camille Bauer Lostaunau, Natalie Beier, Zach Bloomstein, Corey Bois, Nicole Caponetti, Nayara Da Silva, Alex De Sena, Noelle Deneault, Marcos Do Canto, Sophie Donahue, Johabe Franco, Dan Frazee, Maria Grandoni, Jenna Hurley, Danielle Lagman, Leo Rangel, Rob Rentel, Chris Starr, Mark Welcome, and independent study students Giles Holbrow and Cameron Burke.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Tucked away on one end of Nobscot Shopping Center is one of Framingham’s unique shops: Annies Bookstop and more. We say “more” because within Annie’s is a small gallery of art, crafts, and jewelry, plus Espresso Paulo, a mini-coffee bar.
Owner Paul Ashton, aka Paulo, serves up coffee, tea, expresso, smoothies, plus fresh baked goods along with discounted pre-read paper and hardcover books, books on tape, and DVD’s. He will also take your gently used books in partial trade. Not only do you recycle books, but also save money at the same time. There is a new book on request service. Usually recent titles can be obtained within 48 hours. All New Hard Cover titles are offered at 20 percent discount from the publisher’s recommended price. All new Paper Backs are offered at 10 percent discount.
In addition to books and great coffee, Paul also provides copy and FAX services. Paul has added additional tables for people to meet friends or business associates. Folks who want a game of chess or backgammon are welcome, as well as those who want a WIFI connection.
Annie’s is host to a mystery book club and periodically holds special events. A popular guest speaker is Dave Retalic, a local ghost hunter, who speaks on the paranormal in MetroWest and New England. Annie’s is located in the Nobscot Shopping Center on Water St., opposite the fire station and Anton’s Cleaners. The shop opens at 7 a.m. daily, except for Sundays, so you can stop in for coffee and a baked goodie for your morning commute or schedule an early morning meeting there. The shop closes at 6 p.m. most evenings, except Thursday, when it closes at 7 p.m. On Sundays the shop’s hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Paul will keep the shop open later for group meetings upon request. There is plenty of free, convenient parking.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — Nobscot Gallery, bookstore and coffee shop in Nobscot Plaza on Water St. hosts an exhibit of Hemenway students’ artwork beginning on June 8th, 2008.
The Hemenway School Parent’s & Children’s Art Exhibition is organized by parents Patty Hebert and Brenda Dostie. The exhibition will celebrate and share the talents of the Hemenway community of parents and students. Exhibits are expected to include paintings, pottery, photography, quilting and jewelry.
Local writer and parent Patty Hebert commented: “I have always enjoyed the monthly exhibits at the Nobscot Gallery, and this one will be particularly delightful as it showcases the art of our school community.
A grand opening reception will be held on Sunday, June 8th, from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Nobscot gallery in Annie’s Book Stop. The reception will also feature music and other performance art from children whose talents are more active than static!
The reception will be a fund raiser, and grilled food has been generously donated by Wanda’s Food and Catering. All proceeds will be donated to the Hemenway School PTO art program.
Organiser Brenda Dostie commented: “We just want to celebrate the joy and enthusiasm of our children expressed through art. Events like this are important in bringing together our community.”
