    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Some might think a Board of Health meeting would not draw much of a crowd, but the Tuesday October 25th, 2011 meeting of the Framingham Board of Health overflowed into the hallway outside the 2nd Floor Conference Room of Town Hall, (the Memorial Building).

    Among other issues before the board, an application for a permit to keep chickens was on the agenda.

    After a somewhat contentious debate, Peter Jacobson, a Framingham High School Junior was issued a permit keep six chickens at his Maple Street home.

    While that would not be any news at all in many parts of the United States, it was a landmark decision of sorts — and an example of how the average citizen in Framingham — regardless of age, can be heard and have government address their needs and desires.

    In Framingham, the BOH must issue a permit for anyone to keep even one chicken.  Jacobson had submitted an application for a permit to keep six, and included a drawing of coop he plans to build himself.

    Framingham, MA – Joseph P. Keefe Technical School Superintendent-Director James Lynch is pleased to announce that Jonathan Evans, current Director of Student Services, will succeed Patricia Canali as the school’s new Principal.

    Superintendent Lynch stated that Evans’ appointment is effective July 1, 2011. According to Lynch, “I have made this decision after a very thorough search process that included a broadly publicized posting, 14 applicants, 6 semifinalists, 4 finalists, two lengthy and probing interviews, and a detailed review of recommendations and references. I am convinced that Mr. Evans is the very best candidate for this important leadership position. I look forward to working with him as Principal and as we go forward to continue to improve our school and service our students.”

    Evans has served the Keefe Tech school community for 15 years, beginning his career as an intern in the Guidance Department in while he was earning a Master of Education in Counseling. He came aboard as a full-time Guidance Counselor in the 1997-1998 school year, and advanced to the position of Lead Counselor and then Director of Guidance and Admissions over the next ten years.   • Annual Town Election Results (2006)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Voter turnout was 16 percent in Framingham’s annual election.

    Winners were: Board of Selectmen: Jason Smith; Planning Board: Tom Mahoney and Carol Spack; School Committee: Pam Richardson and Andy Limeri; Keefe Tech School Committee: Nelson Goldin, Argentina Arias, and Esther Hopkins; Town Moderator: Joel Winett.

    At the first Board of Selectmen meeting following the election, Dennis Giombetti was voted chair.
