    East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project will be conducting an application of the biological larvicide, Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis), to control mosquito larvae in large wetlands.

    Wetlands currently being evaluated for this application in Framingham are located by Angelica Dr., Callahan State Park, Fairbanks Rd., Palmer Rd. and Walnut St. The application, typically done by helicopter, will be done manually with personnel “on the ground”. The application will take place between April 24, 2023 and April 28, 2023. The Bti will be applied in a granular formulation by trained applicators in wetland areas.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project is planning to use a truck-mounted aerosol sprayer to apply “reduced-risk pesticide” to control mosquito populations in the City Thursday, July 22, 2021. All spraying will be done between dusk and 11:30 p.m.

    The spraying is scheduled for neighborhoods of Framingham that are located in the vicinity of Savoy Road, Angela Road, Doris Road, August Drive, Sylvester Drive and Mayflower Road.

    Framingham, MA – The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project will be conducting a helicopter application of the biological larvicide, Bti, to control mosquito larvae over wetland areas located in Framingham.

    Wetlands currently being evaluated for this application are located by Angelica Dr., Callahan State Park, Fairbanks Rd. and Palmer Rd. The application will take place between April 22nd and April 29th, 2014.
    The Bti will be applied in a granular formulation by a helicopter flying low directly over the wetlands.
    Residents do not need to take any special precautions for this application.
    The material to be applied Bti,  (Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis), is a natural bacterium found in soil.
    The EPA classifies Bti as a relatively non-toxic pesticide. Bti is considered a target selective and environmentally compatible pesticide that affects mosquito larvae and a few closely related aquatic insects in the fly family.
    Once applied Bti stays suspended in water for 24 to 48 hours and then rapidly biodegrades as it settles to the bottom. The Bti product name is VectoBac G, (EPA Reg. #73049-10).

    Mosquito Spraying Resumes Wednesday September 21st

    The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project will resume spraying in Framingham, Wednesday, September 21, 2011

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project will again be spraying for mosquitoes in areas of Framingham beginning Wednesday, September 21, 2011 between dusk and 11:30 PM.

    Spraying is scheduled for neighborhoods in the vicinity of Elm Street, Griffin Road, Pinewood Drive, Danforth Street, Lake Street, Old Connecticut Path and Lowther Road.

    Spraying will also be done in areas near Irving Street, Arlington Street, Hollis Street, Winthrop Street, Bethany Road, Fay Road, Mt. Wayte Avenue and Dr. Harvey Cushing Way.

    The Project uses a spray formulation that contains the pesticide product, Anvil, to control mosquitoes. Anvil contains the pesticide, Sumithrin, which is a pryethroid that is classified as slightly toxic by the EPA. Mosquito control applications of Sumithrin do not (more…)
