FRAMINGHAM, MA – As in summer’s past, the Framingham Public Library and the McAuliffe Branch are modifying their hours during July and August.
McAuliffe Library is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is closed Saturdays and Sundays. NOTE: McAuliffe is never open on Sundays during the school year.
The main library is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until noon. Closed on Sundays until October 4th, 2009.
This is not the first time that the main library has curtailed the Saturday hours during the summer. Some patrons may remember summers when the library closed at 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Usually the main library reopens on Sundays after Labor Day, but due to budget restraints, Saturday hours were reduced and the date for resumption of Sunday afternoon hours was pushed back.
On Friday, August 7th, both libraries will be open from 9 a.m. to 12:3 p.m. They are closing early for staff development. Visit www.framinghamlibrary.org for more info.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – Godzilla returns to Framingham July 1st – August 31st.
After the success of last years “Celebrating 50 Years of Godzilla” Exhibit at the Framingham Public Libary, Godzilla fan and graphic artist Andrew Wong is back to share his passion for Godzilla & Japanese Special Effects series with fellow Fans and the Framingham Community.
Wong is presenting not only extensive exhibits of his Godzilla collection, but also organizing a film festival and a free event with a costume contest and video game competition.
This will be the first Ultra G-Con event held in MA. The event is free, non profit and designed to share and expose the Kaiju Eiga (Monster Movie) & Tokusatsu(Special Effects) genre to future generations of fans.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham Public Library is capping a year of special events, with a special weekend of activities as it celebrates its 150th anniversary.
Activities on Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30th include puppet shows, Dixieland Jazz, storytelling, and an appearance by mystery writer Robert Parker.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – Framingham Public Library staff welcomed new director Mark Contois with a meet and greet reception in the main library staff room on his first day, January 30th.
Contois succeeds Tom Gilchrist, who worked as assistant, and then director for twenty years. Contois served as director of Palmer Public Library for the past ten years. Under his leadership, Palmer has been recognized as a leader in library services, programs, technology, fiscal support and building construction.
Prior to being at the helm in Palmer, Contois was assistant director of the West Springfield Public Library for four years. He served as the Vice President of the Western Massachusetts Regional Library System, President of the Palmer Downtown Partnership, and has served on the Board of Directors of Quaboag Valley Chamber of Commerce, Palmer Rotary Club, Literacy Volunteers of Quaboag Valley, and other organizations.
Contois is married with three children, two of whom are now attending college. He received his graduate degree from Simmons College of Library and Information Science in 1989.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Christa Corrigan McAuliffe Branch Library reopened at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16th.
The branch library closed Friday afternoon, December 9th to complete alterations necessary to improve access for those with disabilities.
Due dates on materials were adjusted due to the closing.
Main Library loses materials due to water damage!
In the meantime, unfortunately the main library experienced leaks and flooding on the first floor and in the children’s room, causing damage to many hardcover books.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The McAuliffe Branch Library in Saxonville has a hit display: Godzilla.
People from around MetroWest are calling and visiting the state’s busiest branch library to enjoy an extensive display of Godzilla memorabilia.
From the 10 year old collection of Andrew Wong comes some unique collectibles which will bring back monster memories of the past and for future generations! Be sure to check out this unique display and let you imagination take you beyond limits!
Items included in the exhibition range from various candy toys, Bandai/Banpresto Figures, autographed miniposters, large posters, movie programs, Resin Chess Pieces, SD figures, and even Andrew Wong’s own artwork. Unfortunately the X-Plus King Ghidorah Statue would not fit in the display case but is represented by his smaller microman sibling.
Andrew Wong is a student at UMass Amherst and a long-time page at McAuliffe Library.
Hurry into McAuliffe by Friday, Sept. 2nd to experience the wonderful Godzilla collection.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – Due to the heavy demand for interlibrary loans among member libraries of the Minuteman Library network, the delivery service has been temporarily overwhelmed by the quantities of materials to be moved from library to library.
Citing a backlog of about 600 boxes to be sorted and rerouted among the more than two dozen member libraries, the Minuteman Library system has temporarily called a moritorium on requests for audio-visual materials. The popularity of borrowing videos, audio books, and DVD’s has grown geometrically in the past few years, challenging the library staffs and the delivery system to keep up.
Suspending audio-visual requests will enable the delivery service to have time and space to process the materials currently in transit and waiting to be sorted and delivered.
Library patrons may still request print materials and go to member libraries in person to check out audio visual materials.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The summer concert series on Framingham Centre Common, “Concerts on the Green,” officially opened the season on Friday night, June 3rd. The Comcast Cable Studio crew was on hand to record it so if you missed it, you can enjoy reruns on Channel 9.
Framingham Farmers’ Market will return to the Centre Common beginning Thursday, June 23 and continue through Oct. 27. Shop for fresh area produce and products from 1- 5:30 PM.
On Thursday nights, music lovers can enjoy the Downtown Common Concerts, 6-7:30 p.m. from June 16th – July 28th. The Downtown Common is located on Concord St., in front of the Armenian (formerly Baptist) Church and opposite the Fabric Place.
Amazing Things Arts Center located in Pinefield Shopping Center in Saxonville received its occupancy permit.
The Friends of the Framingham Public Library will hold its last book sale of the season on Saturday, June 18th. Book sales will resume after Labor Day.
The Framingham Library will kick off its summer reading program, “Going Places,” with “Truck Day,” a roundup of town vehicles at Pinefield Shopping Center on Saturday, June 11th, from 10 a.m. – noon for kids to enjoy and explore. “Truck Day” is part of the activities of the Friends of Saxonville’s Discover Saxonville Day. This year the focus is Pinefield Shopping Center.
