    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Can a single word describe Framingham or it’s residents? Perhaps one… “diverse“.

    Acceptance and public service are recurring themes in Framingham history, from the persecuted refugees of Salem End, to the recent influx of immigrants from South America, a better life is the objective of most who settle in Framingham.

    Framingham in 1996 is a multi-cultural community, and in an effort to expose “us” and especially our children to the diversity around town, a week of Prejudice Awareness celebrating Our Human Mosaic, Unity and Diversity, and a Salute to Youth once again shows Framingham’s commitment to acceptance and public service.

    The artwork of Framingham Public School students included on this page should give you insight into the ideals, spirit, and collective attitude which the were the objects of the week long event.

  • FOCUS 2000 – Framingham plans for the 21st Century.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – If you are wondering “What will Framingham be like in the next century?”, you’ll be glad to know a concerned group made up of town officials, business, education, and community leaders is already hard at work on a plan to insure that Framingham will be an even better place to live, work, and enjoy life beyond the year 2000.

    Framingham Town Manager, Russel Marcoux, chaired a meeting of the FOCUS 2000 group in the Ablondi Room of the Memorial Building, calling upon representatives from groups focusing on issues ranging from “Town Image”, to Economic (more…)

  • Army Corp of Engineers Complete Saxonville Local Protection Project along Sudbury River

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The US Army Corps of Engineers has completed the The Saxonville Local Protection Project along the Sudbury River from the falls in Saxonville to the Danforth Street bridge.

    According to the Crops of Engineers, the project will protect about 23 acres of property along the left bank of the Sudbury River which includes the Saxonville Mill complex along with other commercial and residential properties.

    Construction began in March 1977 and was completed in September 1979 at a cost of $4.75 million.

    US Army Corps of Engineers civil works Flood Risk Management / Local Protection Project located along the Sudbury River in the Saxonville village of Framingham, MA.

    The project which runs approximately 3,800 feet along the river consists of:

    • 2,500 feet of earth-filled dikes with stone slope protection
    • 1,340 feet of concrete floodwalls
    • a vehicular floodgate at Concord Street
    • a pumping station

    Construction included straightening a 1,000-foot section of the Sudbury River upstream of the Danforth Street Bridge.

    The project is to be operated and maintained by the town of Framingham.
