    NOTICE: Most of the activities, special programs and events listed below require signing up or advance reservation, (unless otherwise noted). Please do so in advance so activities can be scheduled effectively and in the appropriate space.

    Deer Ticks in Framingham

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – With warmer weather finally arriving, local doctors and emergency room staff are seeing an increase in deer tick bites, and anxious parents worried about the bacteria they carry which cause Lyme Disease.

    Doctors at Framingham Pediatrics report treating children with deer tick bites every week last season, and this year should be no different.

    Deer Ticks are common throughout all of Massachusetts and can be active from April through October and are most active in June, July and August. Adults deer ticks can be active any time of the year when temperatures rise above freezing.

    The deer tick, or “blacklegged tick”, (Ixodes scapularis), bites and feeds on blood at all stages of its 2-year life cycle. Adult females have a (more…)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The following information is about activities and services at the Callahan Senior Center for the month of January, 2011.

    Monday, January 10th, at 1:30 pm: The Friends of Callahan – entertainment provided by Bill Zolli, Vocalist. Refreshments will be served. Please come and bring a friend!

    Tuesday January 11th, from 9:30 to 10:30 am: New Member Orientation Meeting – If you have just joined Callahan you might want to attend as we enjoy coffee and pastry, answer your questions and seek your input on activities.

    Tuesday, January 11th, at 10:00 am – ‘Staying Healthy! Staying Fit!’ invites you to join us this month for coffee and a discussion of common medications, their side effects and interactions. The discussion will be led by a pharmacologist from Metro-West Medical Center. Bring a list of your current medications including any over the counter drugs you may be taking.   • Food Allergies at School: What Works?

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — A roundtable discussion about how to keep children with food allergies comfortable and safe at school will be the topic of the Metro-West Allergy and Asthma Educational Support Group meeting on Wednesday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Allergy & Asthma Treatment Specialists, 475 Franklin St., Framingham.

    The program is free; pre-registration is not required.

    Support group leaders Lori Brockway and Linda Drews will share their years of experience as parents of children with food allergies and as a teacher, and moderate a discussion of how parents can work most effectively as an advocate for their child.

    AAFA New England organizes educational support group programs throughout the region, publishes a newsletter, and runs a telephone resource and referral line for people coping with allergies and asthma.
