    Sannicandro Encourages High-Schoolers to Go Public!

    Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Framingham High School – Learn what UMass and other Massachusetts public universities and community colleges offer.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Representative Tom Sannicandro, House Chair of the Joint Committee on Higher Education, is hosting Go Public!, an event geared toward students and parents interested in learning more about what public universities and colleges offer. Go Public! will take place Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Framingham High School, 115 “A” Street, Framingham, MA.

    “We have a terrific public higher education system in Massachusetts,” Rep. Sannicandro said. “This event will show our young people and their families how much our public universities can offer.”

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham State University volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 win tonight over Elms College in non-conference action this evening at Framingham’s Athletic Center. The Rams won in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-16. With the win, the Rams improve to 8-5 on the year, while the Blazers slip to 4-7.

    The Rams jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first set on a block by junior Jackie Friel and extended the lead to 7-2 on an ace by freshman Kayla Bertrand. The Rams extended their lead to 17-6 before Elms College junior Christina Martin picked up a pair of kills and (more…)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – FSU Junior Taylor Ezold (Westfield, MA) tallied a pair of goals and classmate Hannah Jerdee (Marlborough, MA) picked up a goal and a pair of assists to lead the Framingham State University women’s soccer team to a 9-0 victory today over Wheelock College at Maple Street Field.

    With the win, the Rams even their season record at 3-3, while the Wildcats fall to 0-4 with the loss.

    Sophomore midfielder Kayla Austin (Winchester, MA) scored the game-winner just under four minutes into the game as she collected a rebound at the twenty and sent a high shot on net that (more…)

    Women’s Soccer Drops Double Overtime Heartbreaker to Babson College

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Babson College senior Lauren Clement (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored the game winning goal with 3:34 remaining in the second overtime as the Beavers defeated the Framingham State University women’s soccer team 2-1 in heartbreaking fashion in non-conference action this afternoon at Maple Street Field. With the win Babson improves to 4-1-1 on the year, while the Rams are now 1-3.

    The Rams struck first in the 28th minute as they sent a long shot into the box that deflected off the Beaver netminder. Sophomore forward Marissa D’Angelo (Whitman, Mass.) was right there to control the loose ball and tap it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Lasell College women’s volleyball team swept a tri-match this afternoon defeating both Framingham State University and Daniel Webster College in five sets by a score of 3-2, while in the days other match the Rams defeated Daniel Webster 3-0.

    After the two victories, the Lasers improve to 6-5 on the year and the Rams move to 7-5, while the Eagles suffer their first two losses of the season and are now 6-2.

    Lasell won a hard fought match to open the day defeating the Rams 3-2.  Framingham State took the opening set by a score of 25-22 before Lasell responded winning the next two 26-24 and 25-18.  Lasell held the lead for most of the fourth set before the Rams rallied to (more…)

    Of course, the best source of info is from the organization which runs the particular sports program.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – After forming in the Bahamas on August 20th, 2011, then building to hurricane strength and tracking north/northwest along the eastern seaboard of the United States, Hurricane Irene struck Framingham, MA on the morning of August 28th, 2011.

    This page contains a timeline of events, photos, videos and information related to Hurricane Irene as she approached and hit the Town of Framingham, MA.

    (By the time she hit Framingham, Irene had been downgraded to a Tropical Storm, but still caused severe damage and knocked out power and other utilities across the town and region).

Tom Sannicandro, (D-Ashland), will be moderating a forum, “Spotlight on Health Care: Exploring Single Payer Option” from 6:30p.m until 9:30p.m., Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 in the Forum Room of the D. Justin McCarthy Center at Framingham State University, 100 State Street, Framingham, MA.

    Rep. Sannicandro will moderate a four person panel featuring Senator Jamie Eldridge, the chief sponsor of single payer legislation in the Massachusetts legislature; Ben Day, the executive director of Mass-Care, a single payer advocacy organization; Dr. Gerald Friedman, a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst; and Alex Robbins, a small business owner.

    Alumni Association Announces Framingham State 2011-2012 Scholarships

    FRAMINGHAM, MA– The Independent Association of Framingham State Alumni, (“IAFSA”), a self-governing, non-profit organization established in 1874 which receives and administers funds that provide scholarships and interest-free loans to FSU students, has announced its list of 2011-2012 scholarship winners.

    Scholarships, (and loan funding), are made possible by donations, bequests, and rental of the Alumni House.

    Scholarships ranged from $500 to $2500.

    Verena Lutz and Mariya Dzhyoyeva were the only Framingham residents among the 2011-2012 recipients. Both received a “Dorothy Larned Scholarship” award. The scholarship, which encourages the sharing of international cultures was (more…)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Following the results of the 2010 Census, the State of Massachusetts is losing one congressional district. District lines need to be redrawn to reduce the total from ten districts to nine.

    The current legislators representing Framingham; State Sen. Karen Spilka, (D-Ashland), a Member of the Special Joint Committee on Redistricting, along with State Reps. Tom Sannicandro (D-Ashland),  and State Rep. Chris Walsh (D-Framingham), US Rep. Ed Markey (MA-7th), and several other other MA legislators will be holding a public forum to discuss redistricting, Saturday, June 18, 2011, (more…)
