    Framingham Approved for Transportation Help by Massachusetts National Guard

    MA National Guard to help busing Framingham Public School students to school using non-military passenger vans dur to local and national shortage of “CDL” school bus drivers.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — On Monday, September 13, 2021, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker activated the Massachusetts National Guard to help with busing students to school as districts and transportation providers across the country struggle to hire enough CDL (yellow school bus) and 7D (van) drivers.

    After hearing about this option for selected school districts in Massachusetts, Dr. Robert Tremblay, Superintendent of the Framingham Public Schools, personally reached out to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Commissioner to be included in this effort to address the Framingham Public Schools (FPS) bus driver shortage. Within 24 hours, the FPS request was reviewed and approved.

    MWRTA Expands On-Demand MicroTransit Service to Framingham and Natick on Weekends

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Today the Metrowest Regional Transit Authority, (MWRTA) expanded its app based, “Catch Connect” MicroTransit service to operate on Saturdays and Sundays in areas within Downtown Framingham and Natick, and the Golden Triangle shopping area, (Natick Mall, Shoppers World, Walmart, and other nearby locations).

    According to the American Public Transit Association “Transit agencies are implementing MicroTransit solutions that improve the rider’s experience by operating small-scale, on-demand public transit that can offer fixed routes and schedules, as well as flexible routes and on-demand scheduling.”

    NATICK, MA – At approximately 4:20pm yesterday afternoon, (Tuesday, October 18, 2011), a bus operated by Framingham based MetroWest Regional Transit Authority, (MWRTA), collided with a BMW sedan behind the Natick Sears store.

    The bus, (MWRTA #2), which was headed east on Flutie Pass struck the car as it was taking a left turn into Sears rear parking lot seriously injuring the car’s driver and also injuring at least three others.

    Ambulances from Framingham and Wayland, Natick Police, Natick Fire & Rescue, MWRTA supervisory personnel and Natick Mall security staff quickly responded to the scene.

    FRAMINGHAM, MAThe MWRTA, (Metrowest Regional Transit Authority), is Framingham’s local bus service.

    Riders may now pay fares for fixed route trips on the MWRTA bus system using the same Charlie Card used on MBTA busses and trains!

    Former “LIFT”, (Local Framingham Inter-Transit), bus routes are now part of the MWRTA as are several other area transportation systems including the former Natick Neighborhood Bus and other routes have added taking riders into Ashland, Holliston, Marlborough, Southborough, Hopkinton and (more…)

  • FREE LIFT Bus Service During Peak Shopping Days

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Once Again the LIFT Public Transit System will be offering free bus service on select days during the holiday season. This year’s days are: Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25, and Friday December 22, 2006. Shoppers can avoid parking lot headaches by using the Lift bus, especially the Lift 9 bus.

    The LIFT 9 bus provides direct service between the West Natick Commuter Rail station and the retail, residential, and employment hubs along Route 9 in Framingham, including Framingham State College, Shoppers World, the Natick Mall, Technology Park, and the 9/90 Corporate Center. LIFT 9 operates between 6:10 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

    With funding from the MBTA, the Executive Office of Transportation, and appropriations from the Town of Framingham, the LIFT Public Transit System has been undergoing constant enhancements to better serve its customers.     FRAMINGHAM, MA – Come celebrate the launch of LIFT 9 at 11:00 a.m. at May Hall on the campus of Framingham State College. The celebration will include refreshments, live music, and remarks from some of the prominent local officials who made LIFT 9 a reality.

    What’s the celebration about?

    Beginning August 28, 2006 the Lift Public Transit System will begin providing direct service to the West Natick commuter rail station and the retail, residential and employment hubs along Route 9 in Framingham. LIFT 9 will offer bus service to places like the Natick Mall, Shoppers World, Framingham State College and the 9/90 Corporate Center. There are also changes to the current Lift routes.   • New LIFT 9 Bus Service in Framingham

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Beginning Monday, August 28, the LIFT Public Transit System will begin providing new service along Rt. 9. The new LIFT 9 bus will provide direct service between the West Natick Commuter Rail station and the retail, residential, and employment hubs along Route 9 in Framingham, including Framingham State College, Shoppers World, the Natick Mall, Technology Park, and the 9/90 Corporate Center.

    New route covers from 9/90 Corporate Center to W. Natick Train Station

    “After months of planning, the Framingham LIFT Public Transit System is very pleased to be able to offer the new LIFT 9 bus service to MetroWest residents,” comments Kathleen B. Bartolini, Director of Planning & Economic Development for Framingham. “This new service will provide convenient access to jobs, schools, shopping, and entertainment.”

    LIFT 9 will operate between 6:10 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. With the addition of the LIFT 9 bus, some existing LIFT routes will see changes in service. LIFT 5 will no longer be servicing Framingham State College and will be increasing service in Hopkinton. Also the LIFT 5 route will be shortened from an 80 minute round trip to an hour. LIFT 6 will operate on a different time schedule, and LIFT 7 will have a slightly different route around Framingham State College.
