    Food Pantry Opens in Former RMV Building

    Pearl Street Cupboard & Cafe, 10 Pearl Street, Downtown Framingham.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – After months of stalled permitting, the Pearl Street Cupboard & Cafe is slated to open this week in the former Registry of Motor Vehicles, (RMV), building at 10 Pearl Street in Downtown Framingham.

    Operated by the United Way of Tri-County, the primary function will be to serve as a food pantry which will provide a week’s worth of food, (once a month), to those in need.

    In addition to the food pantry operation, the facility will will house a “Clothing Corner” and “Book Nook” which will provide donated [gently used] childrens’ clothing and books to parents and caregivers who need those items.

    November 5th, 2011 – Dinner / Dance to benefit the Curtis Family Thanksgiving at The Eagles

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – For the past 22 years, Mark and Karen Curtis who run The Eagles Grill on Park Street in Downtown Framingham have provided a free Thanksgiving meal to all who need or want one.

    After several local churches, the Salvation Army and other civic organizations canceled their free Thanksgiving dinners for the needy the number of people depending on the Curtis Family Thanksgiving grew considerably.

    Last year well over 1200 free dinners were served at The Eagles — and  hundreds more meals were delivered to local elderly, disabled and shut-ins.

    Until 2010, Mark and Karen never solicited donations, but faced with a growing number of people to feed, when the word went out that needs were growing, several individuals and organizations stepped up to support their efforts.

    Savers Thrift Store to Open in Former CompUSA Location

    Savers Thrift Store looking to hire (50) employees for it's newest store opening in former CompUSA location, Rt. 30, Framingham, MA.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Savers Thrift Store chain will be opening a new store in Framingham in the former CompUSA building at 500 Cochituate Road, (Rt. 30 west, after Masspike Exit 13 off-ramp).

    Representatives from Savers will be interviewing and hiring to fill (50) positions Monday through Friday, May 10-14, 2010. Available part-time and full-time positions include; customer service, sales, back-room inventory production and other entry-level retail positions. Applicants must apply in person between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Interviews are being held at the Hampton Inn at 319 Speen St. in Natick.

  • United Way of Tri-County Backpack Donation Drive

    FRAMINGHAM,MA — Kids Helping Kids!!! Many children want to go back to school each fall with the latest and greatest notebooks, pens, backpacks and other supplies. However, for some parents buying even the basic necessities is difficult. The United Way of Tri-County is asking for your help in making sure that every kid in the community has the tools they need to be ready to learn.

    Donate a backpack & supplies to a child in need

    It’s a great opportunity for children to feel good about helping others.

    How can you and/or your child help?  Purchase a backpack and all the supplies to go with it. (See the list below of supplies needed)  In order for the children to receive the backpacks before school starts please have the complete backpack to the United Way of Tri-County by August 4th.

    The backpacks can be dropped off at The United Way of Tri County office at 46 Park Street, Framingham MA, Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm or at the MetroWest Daily News office.

    You can also help local schools out while shopping for backpacks and supplies when you shop for them at Office Depot in Shoppers World, which has some great buys this week and backpacks starting at $ 9.99. Just mention a local school at checkout and Office Depot will donate 5 percent of your purchase to the school of your choice. See store for details and restrictions.
