    Mystery Unfolds from Saxonville Civil War Era Envelope

    FRAMINGHAM, MA -After ten days on the online auction site eBay, an envelope mailed over 100 years ago to Saxonville sold for $688.76 to the high bidder.

    The envelope, or “cover” as it’s more accurately called by philatelic collectors, bears a patriotic image of Horatio Seymour and Frank P. Blair campaigning for President and Vice President of the United States in the election of 1868.

    Seymour lost the election to Ulysses S. Grant.

    The cover had been mailed from Auburn, Mass to a “Mr. John Lewis, Saxonville, Mass.” in the 1890’s, (as noted in the auction listing — the date is uncertain as (more…)

    This fire damaged 22 room mansion located at 35 Waveney Road will be auctioned Wednesday, May 18th, 2011 at 2:00PM.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Town of Framingham has ordered the historic Addilson Belknap property at 35 Waveney Road be auctioned off to recoup back taxes owed on the fire damage mansion.

    The property which was was originally scheduled be auctioned off  in January, has now been set to go on the auction block Wednesday, May 18th, 2011 at 2:00PM(bidder registration begins at 1:30PM on site).

    Those interested in the 13 bedroom, 4 1/2 bath, two-story “22 rooms-in-all” Greek-revival, 8,000 sq. ft. style home which was originally built in 1699 and presently sits on approximately 1.65 acres of prime North Framingham real estate must (more…)

    BOSTON, MA – In the old days, when Massachusetts State government had items to auction off they would publish a public notice in several major newspapers and mail out a list to a few hundred in-the-know auction hounds, junk dealers, surplus buyers and collectors of all sorts of things.

    The state would then take sealed bids for larger items, and arrange public auctions  where a real live auctioneer would call out, “Who’ll give me $5.00?, …$4.00? $3.00?” …the bidding would start — and then usually end just as quickly — with many valuable items selling for pennies on the dollar.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Pop Culture guru and Antiques Roadshow appraiser Gary Sohmers announced the opening of his newest venture, The Saxonville Auction Hall, in the Roxbury Carpet Mill Complex.

    His first auction will be an online catalog auction.  Bidders can preview the items in the hall, but the auction won’t be live as the occupancy permit has not been issued.

    In Person Preview Times: Friday Jan. 20 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. & Saturday Jan. 21 from Noon to 7:00 p.m.
