    Saxonville, MA – The Athenaeum is getting a little help from its “Friends.” The Friends of Saxonville hosts Nutcracker Sweet, a ballet performance to benefit the Athenaeum in Saxonville, presented by Mass Ballet. The production will be a ballet in the round performed by students of Mass Ballet on Saturday, December 6th, 2014 at 5:00pm.

    Although the exterior of the Athenaeum has been restored, the interior is in complete disrepair. The Friends goal is to raise funds to help with construction costs, provide furnishings and accessories, and assist the town with operating expense support.

    Event highlights include boxed dinner for purchase, a cash bar of fine wine and beer, a brief review of the planned restoration of The Athenaeum Community Hall, a ballet in the round featuring selected pieces from the Nutcracker Suite presented by students of Mass Ballet, and topped off with “Sweet Endings”: a delicious selection of holiday sweets and beverages.

    Event venue is generously donated by Megan Powers in the Dance Studio of Mass Ballet located in the Saxonville Mill, 2 Watson Place (not handicapped accessible). The recommended dress for the event is Casual.

    Event Contribution is $15.00 per person or $40.00 per family of 4.

    Boxed dinner (ordered online, in advance) is $10.00 for sandwich and snack.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Discover Saxonville’s Athenaeum! The Athenaeum is getting a little help from its “Friends”.

    Join The Friends of Saxonville for community, culture and cuisine — a reception and concert to benefit the Restoration of The Athenaeum Community Hall at 7:00pm on Saturday evening October 5th, 2013

    Although the exterior of Athenaeum has been restored, the interior is in complete disrepair. Our event goal is to raise $10,000 to help with construction costs, provide furnishings and accessories, (i.e. media equipment and kitchen necessities), and provide operating expense support.

    Event Highlights include delectable Hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar of fine wine and beer, a brief review of the planned restoration of The Athenaeum Community Hall, a concert of Baroque Period selections for Harpsichord and Flute by The Hunt Trio and the event is topped off with decadent desserts, coffee and tea.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Imagine the Athenaeum open to the public once again. Let’s make it happen!

    Please join The Friends of Saxonville at their Annual Meeting on Tuesday April 9th, 2013 at 7:00 PM in the Edwards Church Education Building, 39 Edwards Street in Saxonville to discover how this could become a reality.

    The main agenda item of the meeting is The Friends’ proposal to restore The Athenaeum Hall as “The Athenaeum Community Hall in Saxonville.”

    The Athenaeum Task Force will make a media presentation that includes an historical overview of the Athenaeum, with details of the proposal, ask for your input and answer your questions. This is the perfect time to renew your membership or to join the organization and discover ways that you can help restore the Athenaeum Community Hall to its original purpose and stature.

    Light refreshment from local Saxonville vendors will be served.

  • FRAMINGHAM, MA – Saxonville offers lots to see and do in the first part of June!

    On National Trails Day, on June 4th, tour the Cochituate Rail Trail from 10 – 11:30 a.m. and learn about its natural and historic features. Park at 500 Old Connecticut Path, Framingham. Check in across the street at the Cochituate Brook Reservation, (the grassy cleared area between Crispus Attucks bridge and Suburban Shell Gas Station).

    From 4 – 5:30 p.m. view a slide presentation at Eastern Mountain Sports, Rt. 9 E, Natick. Visit www.crtrail.org for details.

    On June 7th (rain date June 9th) Art conservator Rika Smith McNally will be professionally restoring our WWII Memorial located in front of the Athenaeum Hall on Concord St. Her work is sponsored by the Framingham Historical Society & Museum, Perini Corp., and MetroWest Homes.     On June 8th at 7 p.m., Cable station Channel 9 will re-broadcast Framingham Trivia – The Saxonville Edition as taped at the Friends of Saxonville’s annual meeting.

    On June 11th, Discover Saxonville – A Day in Pinefield, from 10 – 3 at Pinefield Shopping Center. See framingham.com calendar for details and www.saxonville.org.

    Also on June 11th, take part in Riverfest Activities: a 7 a.m. Birdwalk on the Carol Getchell Nature Trail, a 10 a.m. Canoe ride from Central St. to Saxonville, and a 1 p.m. Kayak ride along the Oxbow section of the Sudbury River. For details, go to: www.sudbury-assabet-concord.org.
