    Saxonville Floodgates Mural Project

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – A collaboration with Friends of Saxonville and the Framingham Cultural Council, will fund the creation of two murals on the Sudbury River Floodgates between 1545 and 1555 Concord Street in Framingham.

    The theme for these murals is an artistic interpretation of the Sudbury River’s importance to Saxonville’s founding and emergence as an industrial mill hub for Framingham.

    Summer Stuff To Do (for Bored Kids)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – During summer vacation many parents may be hearing the all too familiar “I’m bored” from their school age progeny.

    Hey Ma! I'm bored!In these “difficult economic times” things to do that are are free or only cost a few dollars — and don’t require excessive driving can help stretch the family budget between trips to Six Flags, Canobie Lake Park or other New England area day trips.

    For activities in the list that require traveling in town — consider having kids go places on MWRTA routes.  Older kids can walk to a neighborhood bus stop, and go by themselves — relieving their parents of driving duty — and helping reduce local daytime traffic.

    Things to do in Framingham in the Summer:

    • Make some Sidewalk Chalk and color on the driveway, a concrete deck or the sidewalk with colored chalk.  If you find a big enough area, you can use the chalk to make a bike riding course or (more…)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Danforth Museum of Art is pleased to announce that Executive Director Katherine French was awarded the “She Has Impact” award at the Metrowest Chamber of Commerce Women’s Initiative Awards Dinner Tuesday night. The award recognizes French’s significant contribution in expanding the quality and reach of the Danforth Museum of Art during her five year tenure.

    Bonnie Biocchi, President and CEO of the Metrowest Chamber, noted that, under French’s direction, the Danforth has tripled its membership, increased individual donations by 27%, and expanded the operating budget 36%.

    The Museum has been recognized with several awards for curatorial excellence and was named “Outstanding Cultural Organization for 2008” by the Massachusetts Art Education Collaborative.  “Under Katherine’s leadership, the Danforth has become a premier attraction not just for Framingham but across New England,” Biocchi said. She also commended French for the development of curriculum-based learning for thousands of school children, the creation of a teen docents program, and for curating a number of award-winning exhibitions.

  • Fountain Street Studios Presents Second Fridays Art Walk Strolls

    Framingham, MA – Fountain Street Studios, 59 Fountain Street, Framingham, announces Art Walk Strolls on second Fridays: September, October, November, December, 2009, from 6 – 9 pm. This Fall collaboration begins with an opening reception on Friday, September 11, from 6 – 9pm.

    Fountain Street Studios is a thriving artists’ community located in the historic Bancroft Building in South Framingham, MA. With over 60 working artists, Fountain Street Studios is diverse and inclusive, and enjoys an excellent rapport with the surrounding community, including other artist groups, as well as both public and private supporters of the arts. A multitude of visual styles and media exist within the group of resident artists whose innate goal is to make art that inspires, excites, breaks boundaries and fosters the creativity in all.

Fountain Street Studios is handicapped accessible except to wheelchairs, as the freight elevator can only be reached by descending two stairs.   • Students Display Artwork at Barnes and Noble, Shoppers World

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Metrowest community is invited to enjoy an art exhibit showcasing creative works made by students from the MetroWest Jewish Day School(MWJDS) of Framingham.

    The works are exhibited at Barnes and Noble at Shoppers World for the month of February; visit during school vacation. All 54 students have at least one piece of art displayed. Represented are portraits of Jerusalem, designs of Native American Molas, alphabet art in the style of Stuart Davis, mathematical designs in symmetry and two collaborative quilts.

    The quilts were crafted by students to represent their images of Israel and Jewish life as we anticipate the celebration of Israel’s 60th birthday. MWJDS welcomes eager learners for grades K – 6.     FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham Auxiliary Police announced today that they are holding their nineteenth annual Craft Fair / Flea Market and Child Identification Program from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2007. The event will be held at the Keefe Vocational Technical High School, 750 Winter Street, Framingham, MA.

  • 2006 Spring Into Arts Calendar Now Available

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – START Framingham Partnership’s Spring into Arts Calendar covering local events from April 17th through May 21st is now available both online on framingham.com as well as in booklet form.

    Thanks to Bose Corporation, who donated the printing, you can pick up a booklet at the Framingham Libraries, as well as the many museums, art studios, cultural organizations, and businesses around Framingham.

    Copies will also be available at events, including the kick-off event, the Framingham Rotary Club’s Annual Multicultural Fair at the Town Hall and Civic League. The Fair is Marathon Monday, April 17th, from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

    The mission of the START Framingham Partnership is to strengthen community life in Framingham and to contribute to the cultural broadening, deepening and diversifying participation in the arts and cultural activities.

  • LIFT Bus Wrap Design Competition

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Town of Framingham Department of Planning & Economic Development has announced an art competition open to “…art students attending a school in Massachusetts enrolled in an art or design course”.

    The competition: Design a “bus wrap” for the Town’s public transit system. Designs are sought for side panels, (below and above windows) and rear panel of the Town’s LIFT bus vehicles.

    The design should inform, entertain, and ultimately attract new users of public transit in Framingham.

    There is one $1000.00 grand prize and four $50 prizes.

    Student / artists are encouraged to submit designs that are “…creative, fun, surprising, even comic and promote the use of public transit by a wide range of people”.

    Selected designs will be hung at Framingham Town Hall April 12 to May 12. Artists will be invited to attend an opening reception April 17, Patriot’s Day.

    Deadline for the competition is Monday, April 3, 2006, so be sure to download and print out the General Information and Rules and Entry Form (PDF) files and start working on your entry now!
