Weekend of Spirit (at Open Spirit)

Open Spirit — “A Place of Hope, Health, and Harmony,” announces that its annual Day of Spirit will be a “Weekend of Spirit” this year, happening October 2nd — 4th, 2015. *** The theme for the weekend is “Embracing Harmony in Our Lives.” Festivities kick off Friday night at 6:30, with collaborations between singer-songwriter Kim Zunner, artist-poet Monty Brower and pastor-yoga teacher Debbie Clark; and will feature gentle yoga, guided meditation, and original poetry and music. Rosanne Kates, Community Connections Coordinator for Open Spirit, describes the Friday evening program as “an integration of souls.” Saturday’s program begins at 9:00 am with concurrent workshops. Titles include, “Let the Body Sing You,” “Creating Health and Balance in Your Life,” and “Ancient Chinese Medicine.” A mid-day vegetarian lunch will be available to all participants, along with a Healing Spa offering treatments such as Reiki, Polarity Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy, and Christian Science prayer. A drumming circle will also be offered. The afternoon workshop choices will include, “A Meditative Journey through the Chakras with Music and Movement,” “Centered in Beauty”, and “Balancing Give & Take in Relationships.” The weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon with an invitation to a sukkah, a homemade outdoor booth created for the Jewish festival of Sukkot. Rabbinic pastor Matia Rania-Angelou offered to host the Open Spirit community at her home, after participating in an Open Spirit iftar, a celebration of breaking of the fast during the Muslim month of Ramadan. She describes Sukkot as “a nature holiday that reminds us of the fragility of life and that we are always protected by the Divine.” The Open Spirit Sukkot celebration will include refreshments, traditional blessings, and lots of singing.Dr. Rev. Fran Bogle, who is co-leading a workshop on Saturday, sums up her hopes for the weekend with an invitation: “It’s a safe place to experience spiritual connection and growth. Come and try it!” *** Pre-registration for all three days is encouraged, and participants can also register for Friday and Saturday’s events on those days at the door. *** Cost is $25 for the entire weekend; or $10 for Friday and $20 for Saturday. *** For more information and registration options, visit www.openspiritcenter.org, email info@openspiritcenter.org, or call 508-877-8162.
