Literature Sessions on: “To the Lighthouse” by Virginia Woolf

Wednesdays, November 17 and December 1, 10:00am-12:00noon, Guest Speaker: Dr. Helen Heineman, President Emerita, Framingham State University.A two session presentation of To the Lighthouse (1927) by Virginia Woolf, a book chosen both by Modern Library and Time Magazine as one of the 100 best English language novels from 1923 to the present. Written in stream-of-consciousness style, the novel centers on the dynamics of family life for both men and women and the choices of the artist’s life. Woolf wrote the novel to better understand herself, her own childhood, and the relationship of her parents. As the book is in part autobiographical, the first session will include an illustrated presentation of Woolf’s life. For that session, participants should read part I of the novel, “The Window.” Parts II and III (“Time Passes,” and “The Lighthouse,” will be covered in the second session. Framingham Public Library, Costin Room, 49 Lexington Street.
