Historical Lecture: “Great Fires of the American Revolution”

7:00pm.New England folklorist John Horrigan will present a slide show on fires that changed the course of the American Revolution. One example involves the Minutemen and Colonial Militia as they were assembling on Punkatasset Hill and saw smoke emanating from their unprotected village of Concord. The men were convinced that the British raiding party was burning their homes. This misinterpretation of a smoke pall would be converted into a rallying call to action, and help to impassion the colonials at the Battle of Old North Bridge. There are many other examples of fires that took place, and the ability of 13 colonies to endure fire sieges made them more resilient and resistant to British domination. Refreshments.
