Framingham Reads Together event: “Abolition and ‘Bobalition’: Myths and Realities of Slavery and the Anti-Slavery Movement in New England”
Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 7:00 pm – Francie Latour unearths stories of slavery in New England and the region’s complex response to the idea of freedom for blacks. There was abolition and there was ‘bobalition,’ the mocking name given to graphic, racist broadsides that were plastered around Boston through the 1830s, ridiculing free blacks. Refreshments by Trader Joe’s. In the Costin Room, Framingham Public Library, 49 Lexington Street, Framingham, MA 01702, 508-532-5570 (TTY: 508-872-2775).
