Breaking Free – Depression and Anxiety In Our Youth
Framingham TWPTO and the Framingham Public Library are sponsoring a discussion and screening of 35-minute documentary, “Breaking Free – Depression and Anxiety In Our Youth”, Saturday May 14th, 2011, 2:00PM to 4:00PM in the Costin Room of the Framingham Public Library, 49 Lexington St., Framingham, MA. There is no charge, (it’s free!). Studies indicate that one in eight adolescents suffer from depression. Only 30 percent will receive help or treatment. Find out what we can do as parents, as a community, to offer support and get youth the help they need. Discussion with Sue Hanly, RN, NCSN, her daughter Caroline Hanly, and Camille Brugnara. Speaker, Sue Hanly, RN, NCSN, a nurse in the Westford Public Schools will share knowledge from her many years of work as a school nurse as well as a parent of a child with depression. Caroline Hanly, a college senior who has battled depression since her freshman year of high school, will speak openly about her journey to educate parents and teenagers and to offer hope to those who are struggling. Camille Brugnara, a senior in high school, will speak about her experiences with suffering from depression for 10 years and how optimism, the correct mind set, and a strong support system can lead to recovery. Break Free From Depression is a program designed by The Swensrud Depression Prevention Initiative (SDPI), a part of the Department of Psychiatry at Children’s Hospital Boston.
