FRAMINGHAM, MA – The City of Framingham will be performing the following highway / road work and utility projects during the week of November 8th – 20th, 2020. Expect delays or detours as described below:
Beaver Street Bridge – punch list items. Expect minor delays at times.
Bethany Road – Eversource Gas will continue relaying gas main and services on Bethany Road. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect minor delays.
Cedar Street – Eversource Gas will continue installing gas service lines on Cedar Street. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect minor delays.
Eames and Pratt – Eversource Gas will continue installing gas service lines on Eames and Pratt Streets. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect minor delays.
Hampden, Hillcrest, and Berskshire Roads – water main replacement, final trench paving is schedule for Hampden, Hillcrest, and Berkshire Roads. Expect minor delays at times.
Indian Head Road – Eversource Gas will continue relaying gas main and services on Indian Head Road. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect minor delays.
Nobscot Intersection – improvements: utility poles will be set, and electrical wires will continue to be transferred in preparation for the intersection improvements project. The City’s contractor will continue to prepare the site for the intersection improvements project and conduct test pits. Expect minor delays at times.
Robertson Road – Eversource Gas will continue relaying gas services on Robertson Road. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect minor delays.
Spot Mill and Fill Paving – The Highway Division will mill and pave miscellaneous sections of roadway on Frost Street, Brook Street, and Dudley Road, Tuesday, November 10. Expect minor delays.
Urban Street Sweeping Program (Area B)
The Highway Division will street sweep Area B on Tuesday, November 10th, 2020
NO PARKING will be allowed from 9 AM to Noon.
Vehicles parked on the street will be ticketed and towed.
The following streets will be swept during this operation: Avon Street, Bethany Road: #4-56, Bridges Street, Bridges Street Ext., Cedar Street, Charles Street, Claflin Street, Clifford Street, Coburn Street, Cypress Street, Hayes Street, Highland Street, Hilton Street, Mellen Street, Naples Street, Pine Street, Saucier Street, Waverly Court, and Winthrop Street.
Worcester Road, 9/90 – a City hired contractor will conduct test pits on Gates Road, Thursday and Friday, November 12-13. Expect minor delays.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham Public Works Department has released the following list of scheduled construction and traffic alerts for the week of November 9th through the 16th, 2019. Please note, construction schedules are weather permitting and are subject to change.
Arlington Street Water Work, Saturday, November 9, 2019, 8 AM 4 PM — the Water Division will install a new water service at the intersection of Arlington Street and Irving Street. Arlington Street (between Irving Street and South Street) will be closed to through traffic. A detour will be in effect. Please seek an alternate route.
Beacon Street & Summer Street, Sidewalk & Road Improvements — crews will continue to adjust driveway aprons and address punch-list items. A two-way and/or one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect, expect delays at times.
Beaver Street Bridge — Utility companies will continue re-locating overhead wires on Beaver Street. Two-way and/or one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect minor delays.
Central Street (between Edgell Rd. and Purchase St.), Central Street Water & Sewer Design Project — a city-hired contractor will continue conducting soil tests and surveying. A two-way and/or one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect, expect minor delays.
Garvey Road, Sewer Pump Station Design Project — a city-hired contractor will begin conducting soil tests and surveying. A two-way and/or one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect, expect minor delays.
Harrison Street, Gas Main Relay (Eversource Gas) — Eversource Gas will continue installing gas main on Harrison Street. Expect minor delays.
Hollis Street (near a portion of Bates Rd. Ext. Thayer St. & Andrews St.), Hollis Street Water Main Project — a city-hired contractor will continue installing water main. Expect minor interruptions at times.
“Hospital Streets”, ( Learned, Evergreen, Thurber, and Myrtle Streets), Sidewalk & Road Improvements — crews will continue to excavate, prep, and pour concrete sidewalks. Also, begin raising utility castings in preparation for final paving. A traffic management plan will be in effect. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times. Police details will be on-site to facilitate vehicle and pedestrian traffic, as well as hospital deliveries. Please seek an alternate route.
Jodie Road, Gas Main Relay (Eversource Gas) — Eversource Gas will continue installing gas main on Jodie Road. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect minor delays at times.
Lincoln Street Gas Main Relay (Eversource Gas), Eversource Gas will continue installing gas main on Lincoln Street. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect delays at times.
Loker Street Gas Main Relay (Eversource Gas), Eversource Gas will continue installing gas main on Loker Street and Howe Street. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect minor delays at times.
Salem End Road, Bridge Rehabilitation project — Bridge rehabilitation continues. Expect minor delays.
Street Sweeping Area B — The Highway Division will street sweep Area B on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. NO PARKING will be allowed from 9 AM to Noon. Union Ave. Detour Information: Starting the week of November 11, 2019, the following detour plan will be in effect 24 hours a day, Monday Friday.
Union Ave. Southbound traffic will be detoured down Lincoln Street to Concord Street back onto Union Ave.
Northbound travel only on Union between Proctor Street and Lincoln Street.
Worcester Road Eastbound (Route 9 East) — Water & Sewer Improvements, Night work: Sunday (night) Friday (morning), 9 PM to 5 AM, Crews will continue to install water and sewer main. Construction will occur between 328 to 150 Worcester Road. The right lane on Rt. 9 East will be closed to traffic during working hours. Please use caution if you are traveling through the area.
Worcester Road, near I-90, 9/90 Water Improvements Design Project, Night work: Tuesday, 11/12/19 (night) Wednesday, 11/13/19 (morning), 9 PM to 5 AM, If necessary, Wednesday, 11/13/19(night) Thursday, 11/14/19 (morning), 9 PM to 5 AM, A city-hired contractor will conduct soil tests on Tuesday night for the design of an upcoming water project. This work will take place between 1800 to 1626 Worcester Road (near the I-90 turnpike ramps). The right lane on Rt. 9 East will be closed to traffic during working hours. Please use caution if you are traveling through the area.
FRAMINGHAM, MA – The City of Framingham announced today that Massachusetts burn season opens January 15 and runs through May 1. Residents may obtain an Open Outdoor Burning Permit by phone or online.
To obtain a permit by phone, call the Framingham Fire Department permit line at (508) 532-5942, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on each day during which the burn will occur. Those wanting to obtain a permit should leave their name, address and telephone number. The contact information left on the message will serve as the permit.
To obtain a permit online, complete the OpenBurning Form (on website) each day during which the burn will occur and print it for record keeping. Please note that permits will not be issued after 1:00 p.m.
In accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. Chapter 48, Section 13 and the provisions of 310 CMR 7.07, permission will be granted to set a fire for the purpose of disposing of brush, cane, driftwood and forestry debris on a parcel of land situated at your location.
The following is PROHIBITED:
Burning of brush, trees, cane and driftwood from commercial or industrial land clearing operations
Burning of leaves or trash
Burning of demolition or construction materials
All open burning must be conducted:
On land closest to the source of the materials to be burned ;
At a location greater than 75 feet from any dwelling;
During periods of good atmospheric ventilation;
Without causing a nuisance.
Additional requirements:
All fires must be completely extinguished by 4:00 p.m.
Someone must be with the fire until it is fully extinguished.
The person conducting the burn must have the capability of controlling the fire (i.e. shovels/rakes and pressurized water hose/can).

Concord Street: Expect significant traffic delays as crews perform utility and roadway improvements during the day and night hours in areas along Concord Street between Cochituate Road (Rt. 30) and School Street. Day work will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Night work will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
Crestwood Drive: Expect minor delays as crews pave the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Dinsmore Avenue: will be closed as crews make utility improvements. Work will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Edgell Road, Grove Street, Belknap Road, Vernon Street: Beginning on Monday, October 22, expect significant delays as a temporary detour will be in place for southbound traffic on a portion of Edgell Road between 8:30 a.m-4:30 p.m as crews perform utility improvements. Southbound traffic will be detoured from Edgell Road onto Belknap Road to Grove Street, and reconnect to Edgell Road via Vernon Street. Northbound traffic will be permitted. Due to road restrictions, oversized vehicles and trucks should observe the posted limitations and follow the truck detour route on Belknap Road to Mill Street, continue onto Pleasant Street and reconnect to Edgell Road via Vernon Street. Police detail officers will be stationed within the work zone and at critical intersections within the detour to assist motorists; school buses will be given priority to ensure safe and timely travel for students.
Fountain Street: Expect moderate delays as crews perform roadway improvements overnight between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. A detour will be in place for this work.
Indian Head Heights: Expect minor delays as crews continue utility work on Indian Head Heights between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Lanewood Avenue: Roadway closure between Briarwood Road and Waveney Road until November as crews perform utility improvements under the aqueduct. Traffic will detour onto Angelica Drive and Waveney Way to access Waveney Road.
Little Farms Road, Shawmut Terrace: Expect minor delays as crews perform utility improvements between 7:00 a.m-3:00 p.m.
Main Street: Expect moderate delays as a one lane alternating traffic pattern is in place between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Nixon Road: Expect moderate delays this week as crews pave the roadway from Edmands Road to Parmenter Road and Parmenter Road to the Marlborough town line between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Old Conn. Path: Expect moderate delays this week as crews pave the roadway from School Street to the Wayland town line between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Speen Street: Expect minor traffic impacts as crews complete punchlist items on Speen Street between Old Conn. Path and Cochituate Road between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Union Avenue: Northbound travel (heading toward Route 9) will be permitted through the work zone (between Melrose Street and Walnut Street). Southbound traffic between Walnut Street and Melrose Street is NOT permitted; traffic will be detoured to Franklin Street (southbound) to Melrose Street to reconnect with Union Avenue. All trucks and over-sized vehicles heading southbound must use Franklin Street. Two-way local traffic traveling between Main Street and Walnut Street will be maintained. A new detour pattern is expected to be implemented Friday 10/26. Northbound travel (heading toward Route 9) will be permitted through the work zone (between DeLoss Street and Walnut Street). Southbound traffic between Linden Street and DeLoss Street is NOT permitted; traffic will be detoured to Franklin Street (southbound) to Henry Street to reconnect with Union Avenue. All trucks and over-sized vehicles heading southbound must use Franklin Street. Two-way local traffic traveling between Main Street and Linden Street will be maintained.
MetroWest Medical Center on Lincoln, Thurber, Myrtle, Learned and Evergreen Streets: work will take place in the area. Please take notice of posted parking restrictions. Overnight work will be conducted on Sunday 10/21- Monday 10/22 at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Evergreen Street. Lincoln Street will not be accessible from Union Avenue during the overnight work, please use Beech Street to access Lincoln Street.

Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, (MEMA), Framingham, MA
FRAMINGHAM, MA – In spite of the recent cold spell, the ice conditions of many bodies of water across the Commonwealth remain uncertain, as demonstrated by the recent ice rescues of a number of individuals and pets. Therefore, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has issued information regarding safety precautions to be taken on our frozen lakes, rivers and ponds.
“Before we experience a tragedy that is unfortunately too common this time of year, it is important that we remind everyone, particularly children, of the dangers of unsafe ice,” said MEMA Director Kurt Schwartz. “People may be a bit impatient and venture out on the ice for skating, hockey, ice fishing and other winter sports before understanding the conditions. We highly recommend the use of recreational skating areas provided by the Commonwealth and your local communities. It is very important to exercise precaution and common sense.”

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Central Street Bridge which spans the Sudbury River over the “Great Falls at Saxonville” is being removed and replaced, check for detours and construction delays.
UPDATES:
12/27/14 – According to a large flashing construction sign by the School Street / Concord Street intersection; the Central Street bridge will close on January 5th, 2015.
12/26/14 – traffic island at intersection of Central St. and Water St. removed, traffic signals and wiring being cleared for demolition.
Project Background:
The bridge replacement project is being performed by contractor under the direction of The Massachusetts Department of Transportation, (MassDOT). Construction schedules call for contractors to performed deconstruction and removal of the bridge starting in late December or early January and continuing through the winter months so that reconstruction may begin in the Spring of 2015. MassDOT has established a deadline of August, 2015 for completion of the new bridge.
The current bridge is named for Anthony M. “Tony” Colonna, a former public servant and lifetime Framingham resident who served as a MA State Representative, (many tribute Tony with bringing two MassPike exits to Framingham), then as Head of the Public Works Department and a Magistrate, and eventually the Clerk of the Framingham District Court for many years.
The Central Street Bridge project was planned in coordination with the recently completed Wickford Street Bridge replacement so that traffic which would usually come into or leave Saxonville via Central Street can be detoured over the Sudbury River using the Wickford Street Bridge.

1955 Sears Christmas Ad mistakenly publishes Air Force / CONAD hotline number.
In 1955, a U.S. Air Force agency called “CONAD”, (the Continental Air Command), had it’s phone number, (ME2-6681), mistakenly published in Christmas ad for the Sears Roebuck store in Colorado Springs, CO.
The ad encouraged kids to call the number to talk to Santa.
In the spirit of Christmas, CONAD Operations Director, Col. Harry Shoup had staff give children updates on Santa’s location.
Three years later, the United States and Canada formed NORAD, and the agency decided to follow Col. Shoup’s lead, and made the “Santa Hotline” a favorite annual event for the agency.
From 1955 to 1996, the “Santa Tracker” was a call-in telephone hotline and newspapers, radio and television programs promoted it to children across the country.
In 1997, Santa went high-tech, and the agency created the NORAD Santa Tracker website — which has been updated over the past 15 years to include “live satellite tracking” and fun, interactive activities for kids.
