    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Today, Assistant Speaker Clark (MA-5) announced that the Framingham Fire Department has been awarded $82,862 through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) to help provide firefighters with the support they need to protect our communities.

    Berry Street Gas Main Replacement – Eversource gas will continue replacing gas main on Berry Street. Expect minor delays. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect.

    Congressional App Challenge Open to Framingham Middle & High School Students

    The 2021 Congressional App Challenge

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — U.S. House of Representatives Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark announced the Massachusetts 5th Congressional District is hosting the district-wide 2021 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) for middle school and high school students.

    The CAC is designed to encourage students to learn to code and to inspire them to pursue careers in computer science. Since the Challenge’s inception in 2016 over 14,000 students from 48 states programmed and submitted an app!

    Framingham Ranked #24 of Best Places to Live in America

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Livability Media, which provides information about and ranks cities, towns, regions and states on how “livable” they are, has ranked Framingham, MA at #24 in their 2020 List of Best Place to Live in America.

    According to their website, for this year they “analyzed more than 1,000 small to mid-sized cities on factors like safety, affordability, economic stability, outdoor recreation, accessibility and community engagement”.

    For 2020, the company’s seventh year producing the annual list, they also factored in an “opportunity score” which took into account job numbers, broadband access, economic resilience and growth.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Motorists are advised that there may be construction work being performed during daytime hours on the following roads in Framingham during the week of August 29th though September 4th, 2021. Please note: construction schedules are weather permitting and subject to change. 

    Blackberry Lane Sewer Pump Station – Pump station work continues. Blackberry Lane at Millwood Street will be closed to through traffic during work hours. A detour will be in effect. Please seek an alternate route.

    Framingham Sewer Smoke Testing begins September 1st, 2021

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham Department of Public Works will begin conducting Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing Wednesday, September 1st, to investigate sources of rainwater and groundwater (inflow and infiltration) that are entering the sanitary sewer system.

    The entire testing program is expected to take one month to complete and will be conducted by engineering consultant, Weston & Sampson.

    According to the FraminghamMA.gov website, “Smoke testing is a common practice that involves blowing air and a non-toxic, non-staining smoke into the sanitary sewer system in the street and monitoring where the smoke escapes.”

    Hurricane Henri Projected to Impact Framingham Area This Weekend

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Residents and others in Massachusetts are urged to prepare for Hurricane Henri, which is expected to affect much of Massachusetts and other New England states beginning Saturday night and into Monday, (Aug. 21st – Aug. 23rd. 2021). Warnings include the potential for strong winds, heavy rain, flooding and power outages.

    Tropical Storm Henri is projected to become a hurricane and significantly impact much of Central and Eastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands, and the South Coast. Hurricane force winds, (winds above 74 mph), and substantial storm surges in coastal communities are expected.

    The State Emergency Operations Center at MEMA Headquarters in Framingham is activated and closely monitoring the storm and forecast to provide situational awareness.

    MWRTA Expands On-Demand MicroTransit Service to Framingham and Natick on Weekends

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Today the Metrowest Regional Transit Authority, (MWRTA) expanded its app based, “Catch Connect” MicroTransit service to operate on Saturdays and Sundays in areas within Downtown Framingham and Natick, and the Golden Triangle shopping area, (Natick Mall, Shoppers World, Walmart, and other nearby locations).

    According to the American Public Transit Association “Transit agencies are implementing MicroTransit solutions that improve the rider’s experience by operating small-scale, on-demand public transit that can offer fixed routes and schedules, as well as flexible routes and on-demand scheduling.”
