    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Roadwork on several major capital improvement projects in town will continue this week, (Monday through Friday, June 13 – 17, 2011).

    Major delays due to backed up traffic and detours around some of the work sites can add to driving times, so motorists should plan accordingly.

    The Town of Framingham’s Department of Public Works / Highway Division / Capital Projects website offers residents and visitors to Framingham helpful information about current and upcoming construction projects.

    You can view up to date traffic alerts, maps of project worksites and traffic detours, and sign up to receive email alerts for all or any of the currently listed projects.

    The email traffic advisory for the week of June 13 – 17, 2011 indicate that:

    Downtown Framingham Traffic About to Get a Little Worse

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Long recognized as one of the worst things about Downtown Framingham, traffic along the Rt. 126 corridor through the Rt. 135 intersection and rail crossing is about to get even worse — temporarily.

    Construction is slated to begin June 23, 2011 to replace the Fountain St. bridge which some motorists use as an alternate route to avoid the traffic choked Downtown central district.

    MassDOT and its contractor estimate the project will take 97 days and, baring any unforeseen circumstances, the projected bridge re-opening date is set for September 27th, (2011).

    Two Small Earthquakes 67 Miles From Framingham

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Two small earthquakes were detected less than 15 miles off Cape Cod last night.

    At 8:39PM, a Magnitude 2.1 quake was detected, followed by a lessor, Magnitude 1.3 tremor at approximately 8:46PM .

    The quakes, which were centered 12 miles from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, approximately 14 miles west of Martha’s Vineyard —  15 miles from New Bedford with the epicenter only 67 miles southwest of Framingham.

    Seismologists for the New England Seismic Network of the Weston Observatory of Boston College confirmed the data, (officially USGS Earthquake Event ID #ne00001256 and #ne00001257).

    By comparison, the quakes which devestated Japan earlier this year were in the 9+ Magnitude range, effecticely thousands of times stronger than these small tremors which were too weak to be felt on land.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Town of Framingham has ordered the historic Addilson Belknap property at 35 Waveney Road be auctioned off to recoup back taxes owed on the fire damage mansion.

    The property which was was originally scheduled be auctioned off  in January, has now been set to go on the auction block Wednesday, May 18th, 2011 at 2:00PM(bidder registration begins at 1:30PM on site).

    Framingham Public Access TV to produce new News Magazine style show this spring.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – If you have ever wanted to learn about television news, or how to produce stories for newscasts and longer-form magazine shows, FPAC, (Framingham Public Access Corporation), invites you to be part of a brand new, Framingham-focused series.

    This spring, FPAC will be unveiling a new initiative to provide a regularly scheduled news magazine program to our viewers. Each program will rely on the talents and efforts of FPAC members and interns who can act as reporters, shooters, segment producers, and other vital roles.

    With that in mind, we’ll be holding a news production workshop series in May in which we will teach students the basics of how to report, shoot and produce packages for television news.

    Whether you are interested in covering community events, creating a segment on arts or dining, or doing a series of reports on an important town-wide issue, this workshop will give you the basic skills to get started.

    The three-session workshop will start Thursday, May 5th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, and will continue for the next two Thursday evenings, (the 12th and 19th).

    During the course of this workshop each participant will be working on news/feature packages that will be included in the premiere edition of FPAC’s new series, which will be produced on Wednesday, May 25th.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – On Sunday, (January 30, 2011), Framingham photographer Wayne Dion spotted an American Bald Eagle near the Sudbury River by Central Street in Saxonville.

    Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough time to photograph the bird that day.

    The following morning, (Monday, 1/31/2010), at 8:00am, Dion was on his way out to an appointment, but took time to look for the eagle.  To his surprise, he spotted not just one, but a pair! He briefly photographed them, then went to his appointment.

    While the early bird may get the worm, it’s the early photographer that gets the bird!
