  • Police Substation to Open in old Tripoli Barber Shop Location

FRAMINGHAM, MA – On Monday, March 31th at 1:00 p.m. a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the Town of Framingham, Police Department’s new Tripoli Community Police Substation located at 904 Waverly Street. The new substation will enhance communication and create a community-centered method of policing.

Dennis Giombetti, Chair of the Board of Selectmen, stated: “The opening of a community policing station on this site is an important addition to the neighborhood. Since the Tripoli Barbershop moved to their location a few blocks away I have been working with the Police Chief and Lee Mencoboni, the owner of La Cantina and this property to make it a community policing substation. I am very proud that my last official act as a Selectman will be this ceremony. It merges my long standing efforts to invest in public safety and my love for the neighborhood where my father and I grew up. ”

Framingham Chief of Police Kenneth Ferguson commented: “The implementation of this substation is an excellent example of community policing in action, your police collaborating with public and private partners for the betterment of the community.”

Derek Sanderson’s “Crossing the Line”, autobiography of Boston Bruins legend — “The outrageous story of a hockey original”
FRAMINGHAM, MA – Boston Bruins fans will have the opportunity to meet two-time Stanley Cup champion Derek Sanderson at a book signing he will conduct in Framingham on Saturday, March 23rd, 2013 from 11:00am ’til 1:00pm at The Paper Store, located in Shopper’s World, 1 Worcester Rd, (Route 9), Framingham, MA.

Sanderson will be signing copies of his new book “Crossing the Line:  The Outrageous Story of a Hockey Original”.

The book is an autobiography of one of hockey’s first rebels and a beloved member of the “Big Bad Bruins,” this book shares how Derek Sanderson’s ferocious style helped lead the team to two Stanley Cup victories in the early 1970s.

Living life in the fast lane, Sanderson grew his hair long, developed a serious drinking problem, and eventually found himself out of the league and prowling the streets for his next drink.

In Crossing the Line, Sanderson comes clean on his life in hockey, the demons that threatened to consume him, and the strength and courage it took to fight his way back. Today a successful entrepreneur and speaker, Sanderson’s incredible story is a must read for any fan of hockey.

(Editor’s note: It was local folklore that in the 1970’s, the round concrete house high-up on the westbound side of Edmand’s Road just after Carter Drive was being built for Sanderson — and that due to his financial downfall he never lived in the house… maybe someone will ask him about this…)
