New digital parking meters installed in Downtown Framingham Central Business District.
FRAMINGHAM, MA – The City of Framingham has installed 146 new “Smart Parking Meters” in the Downtown Framingham Central Business District.
The new meters replace the old coin-operated ones that were removed for the recently completed downtown sidewalk renovations.
The new meters are smart meters and take both credit cards and coins.
The new meters are located in the Downtown Framingham central business district, on Concord Street, Hollis Street, Howard Street, Park Street and Union Avenue
Metered parking fees are $1.25 per hour or $2 for two hours.
Maximum parking time is two hours.
Framingham will enforce parking Monday-Saturday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays and holidays are free.
According to information on the manufacturer’s website, (IPS Group), the new M5™ Single Space Meters have advanced capabilities to handle Pay-by-Phone, Token, Permit, optional NFC/contactless payment, as well as software integration for real-time data, Parking Enforcement, Advanced Data Analysis and more. Beacon Street Paving & Sidewalk Replacement – crews will continue curbing installation. Also, raise utility castings, prep and pave sidewalks, and driveway aprons. Expect delays.
Beaver Street Bridge – Utility companies will continue re-locating overhead wires on Beaver Street. Two-way and/or one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect. Expect minor delays.
Harrison Street Gas Main Relay (Eversource Gas) – Eversource Gas will begin installing gas main on Harrison Street. Expect minor delays.
Hollis Street Water Main Project(located near a portion of Bates Road Extension & Thayer Street) – a city-hired contractor will begin installing water main on Thayer Street, near the intersection of Bates Road and Brackett Road. Expect minor interruptions at times.
Hydrant Flushing South of Waverly Street, (near the Ashland, Natick and Sherborn town lines) – the Water Department will begin conducting its Fall 2019 Water Main Flushing Program on Monday, September 30, 2019, through Friday, November 15, 2019. Water Main flushing will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in residential areas and 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in business areas. The purpose of the program is to improve drinking water quality for residents and businesses in Framingham. Lindbergh Road and Hampshire Road, (Water Main Replacement), the Water Department will continue to install water main on Hampshire Road and Lindbergh Road. Expect minor delays.
North Concord Street – Road & Sidewalk Improvements, Punch-list items. Expect minor delays.
Salem End Road, Badger Road, and Gates Street, (Intersection Improvements) – a city-hired contractor will begin installing new curbing. A two-way and/or one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect during the day time hours. Expect moderate delays as Salem End Road Bridge Rehabilitation also continues.
Summer Street (Paving & Sidewalk Replacement) – crews will continue curbing installation. Also, raise utility castings, prep sidewalks, and driveway aprons for final paving. A two-way and/or one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect during the day time hours. Police detail officers will be on-site. Expect delays at times.
Street Sweeping (Area A) – The Highway Division will street sweep Area A on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. NO PARKING will be allowed from 9 AM to Noon. Vehicles parked on the street will be ticketed and towed. The following streets will be swept during this operation: Bishop Street: Number 1, Number 2, Clark Street, Davis Street, Franklin Street: Number 2 – Number 156, Frederick Street, Freeman Street, Grant Street: Number 1 – Number 76, Henry Street, Kendall Street, Lexington Street, Milton Street, Park Place, Park Street, Pearl Street, Proctor Street, Richardson Circle, Richardson Court, Sanger Street, Thompson Street, Torrey Street, and William H. Worcester Road Eastbound/Rt.9 East, (Water & Sewer Improvements) – Night work: Sunday (night) Friday (morning), 9 PM to 5 AM. Two crews will continue to install water and sewer main. Construction will occur between 328 to 150 Worcester Road. The right lane on Rt. 9 East will be closed to traffic during working hours. Please use caution if you are traveling through the area.

Author of “Wild Plants I’ve Known …and Eaten” to host Edible Plant Walk at Stearns Farm,
FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Sudbury Valley Trustees is hosting an edible wild plants walk from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, Tuesday, September 9th, 2014 at Stearns Farm in Framingham.
Russ Cohen, of the MA Department of Fish & Game Riverways Program, will lead the walk to look for edible plants.
Cohen is a foraging expert and author of “Wild Plants I Have Known… and Eaten,” according to an announcement from the trustees.
Stearns Farm and its adjacent woodlands are home to more than 30 species of edible wild plants, many of which are more nutritious and/or flavorful than their cultivated counterparts.
Join Russ on a late afternoon/evening ramble through the farm (and, if time permits, the adjoining woods) to learn about at least 18 species of edible wild plants. Depending on weather conditions, several edible mushroom species may be encountered as well!
Keys to the identification of each species will be provided, along with information on edible portions, seasons of availability, and preparation methods, as well as guidelines for safe and environmentally responsible foraging.
This is a free event for Stearns Farm CSA members, in addition to SVT members, (Stearns Farm members, please check the SVT member box when registering for this program). Non-Member Fee: $10

Framingham, MA – The Town of Framingham is hiring summer laborers to maintain the Town’s fields, parks and recreational areas.
The work involves operating park maintenance equipment to maintenance fields, recreation areas, and parks “including, but not limited to, painting, mowing, trimming, trash removal, ball field maintenance, raking, cleaning and general landscaping type activities.”
Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old, have a MA Class C drivers license, and “have experience sufficient to indicate the aptitude to do the work safely and efficiently.”
The seasonal position pays $9.85 to $11.03 per hour, and as (40) hours per week, (Sun-Sat), with overtime as needed.
