    Drivers are alerted to be prepared to stop as construction projects continue on many roads in Framingham.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Motorists are advised that there may be construction work being performed during daytime hours on the following roads in Framingham during the week of August 29th though September 4th, 2021. Please note: construction schedules are weather permitting and subject to change. 

    Blackberry Lane Sewer Pump Station – Pump station work continues. Blackberry Lane at Millwood Street will be closed to through traffic during work hours. A detour will be in effect. Please seek an alternate route.

    Framingham Sewer Smoke Testing begins September 1st, 2021

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham Department of Public Works will begin conducting Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing Wednesday, September 1st, to investigate sources of rainwater and groundwater (inflow and infiltration) that are entering the sanitary sewer system.

    The entire testing program is expected to take one month to complete and will be conducted by engineering consultant, Weston & Sampson.

    According to the FraminghamMA.gov website, “Smoke testing is a common practice that involves blowing air and a non-toxic, non-staining smoke into the sanitary sewer system in the street and monitoring where the smoke escapes.”

    Risky Milk Crate Challenge Shut Down by TikTok

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Online “challenges” where social media users challenge others to perform some task and share the video under a common hashtag have the ability to go viral and spread very quickly.

    Some challenges are for fun or to do good; like the “Ice Bucket Challenge” which was used to raise awareness and money by The ALS Association. During the past few weeks, (August 2021), videos of people taking the “Milk Crate Challenge“, went viral on TikTok using the hashtag #milkcratechallenge.

    Hurricane Henri Projected to Impact Framingham Area This Weekend

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Residents and others in Massachusetts are urged to prepare for Hurricane Henri, which is expected to affect much of Massachusetts and other New England states beginning Saturday night and into Monday, (Aug. 21st – Aug. 23rd. 2021). Warnings include the potential for strong winds, heavy rain, flooding and power outages.

    Tropical Storm Henri is projected to become a hurricane and significantly impact much of Central and Eastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands, and the South Coast. Hurricane force winds, (winds above 74 mph), and substantial storm surges in coastal communities are expected.

    The State Emergency Operations Center at MEMA Headquarters in Framingham is activated and closely monitoring the storm and forecast to provide situational awareness.

    The free event will be held at Bowditch Field Athletic & Cultural Complex (475 Union Ave) on Tuesday, August 24th, 2021. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., and Family Fun Night begins at 6 p.m. with the movie to follow at dusk.

    The Blink IQ 200 chargers are the fastest Level 2 AC charging stations available, producing 80 amps of output, providing approximately 65 miles of charge in an hour. Operated on the Blink Network, they can charge any battery-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The winners for the third of five drawings for the Massachusetts VaxMillions Giveaway has been announced. The winner of this week’s $1 million prize is Leo Costinos of Attleboro. Leo is a controller at a financial firm. He got vaccinated to protect himself, his family and his community. Leo plans to use his winnings to support his children’s college plans.

    The winner of this week’s $300,000 college scholarship is Lilla Eliet of Reading. Lilla is entering the 8th grade at Coolidge Middle School in Reading this fall where she is a member of the Coolidge Science Olympiad team. Lilla is already thinking about where she might attend college and is interested in science and technology. She hopes to have a career in the field of medicine. Lilla received the vaccine as soon as she was eligible in order to protect herself and others.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA, (USA, EARTH) – July 2021 has earned the unenviable distinction as the world’s hottest month ever recorded, according to new global data released today, (August 13, 2021), by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information.

    New Postage Stamps Feature Popular Backyard Games

    August 12, 2021, U.S. Postal Service releases new commemorative “Forever Stamps” featuring popular backyard games.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The U.S. Postal Service today, (August 12, 2021), celebrates the outdoor recreational games that Americans play with vibrant new stamps.

    The pane of 16 stamps features eight designs illustrating eight backyard games — badminton, bocce, cornhole, croquet, flying disc, horseshoes, tetherball and pickup baseball. The stamps are now being sold at Post Office locations nationwide and online.
