    FRAMINGHAM, MA – On Wednesday June 16, 2010, from 12:00 Noon until 8:00pm, the Town of Framingham Recycle Center is holding a Free! Electronics Recycle Event.

    Framingham residents can drop off “anything with a cord“, (tv sets, computers, kitchen appliances, home entertainment equipment, computers, monitors, vacuum cleaners — if it has a cord, they’ll take it).

    Residents do not have to have a recycle center sticker for this event, but will be asked to produce a license showing they are a Framingham resident.

    In lieu of payment, the Recycle Center is asking that residents donate (1) non-perishable food item for each electronic item dropped-off.  The food items will be donated to local food pantries.

    The Framingham Recycle Center is located 255 Mt. Wayte Ave.,  (between Franklin St. and Fountain St., accross from Farm Pond).

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham Town Manager’s Office has announced that all public meetings normally scheduled at the Memorial Building, (Town Hall), will be held at the Callahan Senior Center for a period estimated to last up to six weeks beginning June 21, 2010.

    The Callahan Senior Center is located at 535 Union Avenue, Framingham, MA, (approximately 1.1 miles north on Union Ave from the Memorial Building).

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham High School team has made it to WGBH’s High School Quiz Show quarterfinals which air tonight, Monday June 7, 2010 at 7:30pm on WGBH 2.

    Tonight’s matchup is Framingham High School vs. Longmeadow High School.

    Both teams are vying for a spot in the Eastern MA semifinals and hoping to go on to face the winner of the Western MA division and claim the title of State Champion.

    High School Quiz Show is produced by WGBH 2 in conjunction with The University of Massachusetts, and sister-station WGBY and its show called (more…)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Students from the MassBay Community College Therapeutic Massage Program have organized local Massage Therapists to raise money for rebuilding a school in Haiti.

    The two-day massage event will take place at MassBay Community College Student Massage Clinic, Framingham Campus, 19 Flagg Drive, Framingham, MA 01702, Friday June 11 from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday June 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    More than 200 hours of service, both 1-hour relaxation massages and 15-minute seated/clothed neck and shoulder massages, will be available. All proceeds from the event will go to the MassBay Community College Rebuilding Haiti Task Force, which has partnered with the S.O.S. Enfants D’Haiti School in Cyvadier, Jacmel, Haiti.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Danforth Museum of Art is pleased to once again present Harmonie Transverse on Sunday, June 6, 2010, 4:00pm. The group will perform in the Museum’s Rosenberg Gallery. Admission to the Museum is free for Museum members. Non-member admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for students and senior citizens and free for children under 17. All are welcome to attend.

    Harmonie Transverse was formed in 2002 by flutists who had performed with the New England Conservatory’s Metropolitan Flute Orchestra. The Harmonie Transverse This year the group has added a Contra Bass Flute to the ensemble which also includes piccolo, C Flute, G Alto Flute, and Bass Flute; this gives an excellent range for Flute Choir music.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Danforth Museum of Art is pleased to announce that Executive Director Katherine French was awarded the “She Has Impact” award at the Metrowest Chamber of Commerce Women’s Initiative Awards Dinner Tuesday night. The award recognizes French’s significant contribution in expanding the quality and reach of the Danforth Museum of Art during her five year tenure.

    Bonnie Biocchi, President and CEO of the Metrowest Chamber, noted that, under French’s direction, the Danforth has tripled its membership, increased individual donations by 27%, and expanded the operating budget 36%.

    The Museum has been recognized with several awards for curatorial excellence and was named “Outstanding Cultural Organization for 2008” by the Massachusetts Art Education Collaborative.  “Under Katherine’s leadership, the Danforth has become a premier attraction not just for Framingham but across New England,” Biocchi said. She also commended French for the development of curriculum-based learning for thousands of school children, the creation of a teen docents program, and for curating a number of award-winning exhibitions.

    hostasFRAMINGHAM, MA – On Saturday, May 22, 2010 the Pinefield Garden Club and the Simpson Park Garden Clubs are holding their Annual Perennial Plant Sale & Raffle on the Framingham Centre Common from from 9:00am until 12:00 noon.

    Perennials & herbs grown by members will be for sale. Each year the club brings beautiful plants — you will not be disappointed with the selection, (or the very reasonable prices).

    Come early for the best selection — rain or shine!

    In addition to the plant sale, the clubs are also raffling off many items including manicures, pedicures and gift certificates to local businesses and restaurants.

    Knowledgeable garden club members will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the plants and gardening.

    Framingham Centre Common is located on Edgell Rd. just north of Rt. 9, near the State College exit.  Parking may be available in the Village Hall parking lot, or in church parking lots next to the common.

  • Recycle Schedule Changing

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Framingham Town Meeting Members, (TMM), voted to pass an article which will leave Framingham residents with recycling pick up every other week instead of weekly.

    People opposed to new recycling plan offered many reasons why they did not want to see the article pass. Among the complaints; The new containers are too big and some people including elderly and disabled won’t be able to (more…)
