    Framingham Chosen for Healthy Aging Pilot Program

    Hebrew SeniorLife awarded awarded $117k by Tufts Health Plan Foundation

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – In a press release, Hebrew SeniorLife announced it has received a two-year grant from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation to expand and implement healthy aging programs in Massachusetts and to develop two pilot “healthy aging program communities” in Framingham, and in Lawrence, MA. HSL was awarded $117,000 in funding for the first year of the grant.

    “The nation’s rapidly growing senior population is currently confronting an array of debilitating and life-threatening diseases and disabilities,” says Robert J. Schreiber, M.D., HSL’s chief medical officer. “Our goal is to help seniors continue to maintain their independence and improve their quality of life through increased exercise, improved nutrition, enhanced social engagement, and increased motivation to self-manage chronic illness.”

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Babson College senior Lauren Clement (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored the game winning goal with 3:34 remaining in the second overtime as the Beavers defeated the Framingham State University women’s soccer team 2-1 in heartbreaking fashion in non-conference action this afternoon at Maple Street Field. With the win Babson improves to 4-1-1 on the year, while the Rams are now 1-3.

    The Rams struck first in the 28th minute as they sent a long shot into the box that deflected off the Beaver netminder. Sophomore forward Marissa D’Angelo (Whitman, Mass.) was right there to control the loose ball and tap it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Lasell College women’s volleyball team swept a tri-match this afternoon defeating both Framingham State University and Daniel Webster College in five sets by a score of 3-2, while in the days other match the Rams defeated Daniel Webster 3-0.

    After the two victories, the Lasers improve to 6-5 on the year and the Rams move to 7-5, while the Eagles suffer their first two losses of the season and are now 6-2.

    Lasell won a hard fought match to open the day defeating the Rams 3-2.  Framingham State took the opening set by a score of 25-22 before Lasell responded winning the next two 26-24 and 25-18.  Lasell held the lead for most of the fourth set before the Rams rallied to (more…)

    Delays due to traffic and detours around some of the work sites can add to driving times, so motorists should plan accordingly.

    The Town of Framingham’s Department of Public Works / Highway Division / Capital Projects website offers residents and visitors to Framingham helpful information about current and upcoming construction projects.

    FRAMINGHAM, MAThe MWRTA, (Metrowest Regional Transit Authority), is Framingham’s local bus service.

    Riders may now pay fares for fixed route trips on the MWRTA bus system using the same Charlie Card used on MBTA busses and trains!

    Former “LIFT”, (Local Framingham Inter-Transit), bus routes are now part of the MWRTA as are several other area transportation systems including the former Natick Neighborhood Bus and other routes have added taking riders into Ashland, Holliston, Marlborough, Southborough, Hopkinton and (more…)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Riders in the 2nd Annual Warrior Thunder Motorcycle Ride will be meeting up at the Paramount Harley Davidson dealership’s parking lot in Downtown Framingham on Saturday morning, September 17, 2011.

    Riders will arrive for registration between 9:30am – 11:15am, and then at 11:30am, they’ll put up their kickstands and begin a police escorted benefit/charity ride that travels 50 miles of scenic Middlesex County roads between Framingham and Millis, MA,

    The event, hosted by the Warrior Thunder Foundation raised over $4000.00 last year — all to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project®, an organization which supports combat wounded U.S. “war fighters”.

    Ed Stoll, recently elected President of the Greater Framingham Running Club, (GFRC).

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Framingham resident Ed Stoll was recently elected President of the Greater Framingham Running Club, (GFRC).

    Stoll takes over for club member Derek Perkins of Sudbury who served in the role for the past two years. The club serves members from eastern Massachusetts, with the majority being MetroWest residents.

    Other newly-elected officers include: Eric Jacobsen of Framingham as Uniform Director, and Jeff Hattem of Natick as Activities Director.

    Additionally, the following were re-elected: Arnie Pollinger of Holliston as Vice President; Barry Ostrow of Ashland and Marie Leigh of Hudson as Co-Treasurers; Jen Fields of Westborough as Web Director; Mike Gannon of Bedford as Membership Director; Bill Robertson of Ashland as Newsletter Editor; and Susan Richardson of Framingham as Secretary. Tom Abbott and Alison Black, both of Natick, will serve as Grand Prix race Co-Directors.
