    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham State University men’s basketball team received a double double from sophomore Tony Alexandre (Hyde Park, MA) and held off a second half comeback by the Worcester State University Lancers to secure a 67-64 victory in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at the Athletic Center.

    With the win, the Rams improve to 5-19 on the year and are now 2-9 in the conference, while the Lancers fall to 15-6 overall and move to 7-4 in the MASCAC.

    Alexandre paced the Rams with a team-high 20 points on 9-of-17 from the floor to go along with a game-best 14 boards.  Senior Joe McCabe (Canton, MA), who connected on 4-of-6 from behind the arc, finished with (more…)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – On Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. Lt. Governor Karyn Polito will join officials from the Town of Framingham, (and officials from the Town of Holliston), in the Ablondi Room of the Memorial Building located at 150 Concord Street, Framingham, MA to sign a Community Compact.

    The Executive Branch and the Town of Framingham’s Community Compact is a commitment to the implementation of new “best practice initiatives” in the categories of Information Technology: Transparency and Education; Administration and Finance.

    The Community Compact provides municipalities with incentives for state grant funds and technical assistance to refine and implement best practices in a Community’s chosen areas.   • Attorney General OK’s Downtown Framingham Rezoning Plan

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey today approved plans by the Town of Framingham to rezone its Central Business District, Downtown Framingham. The rezoning plans were approved on October 21, 2015 by Special Town Meeting members. Town officials see the rezoning as critical to encouraging transit-oriented development (TOD) in Downtown Framingham, and will move their efforts forward to encourage this kind of residential development.

    MA Senate Passes Public Records Reform Bill

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Today the Massachusetts State Senate unanimously passed legislation reforming how the state handles public records. The legislation, originally sponsored by Senator Jason Lewis, is the first update to the public records law since the early 1970s.

    “An accessible, transparent government is fundamental to the democratic process,” said Senator Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland). “This bill strengthens our public records law to improve access and make the process of requesting records simpler, clearer and more fair. Thank you to my colleagues in the Senate and advocates on all sides of this issue for engaging in a collaborative effort to bring our public records law into the 21st century, while providing flexibility for municipalities and agencies.”

    The legislation will reduce costs for records requestors and ensure timely compliance with public records requests. The bill also brings Massachusetts in line with 47 other states and the federal government in allowing attorney’s fees to be awarded to plaintiffs who are victorious in court when denied records. The bill requires attorney fees to be awarded, except in certain defined situations.

    Under the legislation, each state agency and municipality is required to appoint at least one public records access officer to serve as the point of contact for all public records requests and (more…)

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham State University football team received three turnovers from their defense which the offense converted into 14 points as the Rams defeated Plymouth State University 34-3 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Framingham’s Bowditch Field.

    With the win, the Rams remain atop the MASCAC standings at 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference, while the Panthers slip to 2-5 on the year and now 1-4 in the MASCAC.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham State University football team forced five turnovers which they converted into 19 points as the Rams defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 26-14 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.

    Entering the game both teams were 2-0 in the MASCAC and with the victory, the Rams remain unblemished in the conference at 3-0 and 4-1 overall.   The Corsairs fall to 3-2 on the year and are now 2-1 in the MASCAC.

    The Rams defense held the Corsairs to 188 yards of total offense – 111 rushing and 77 passing – in addition to forcing the five turnovers.  The Rams recorded four interceptions and recovered a fumble that led to three Framingham touchdowns.

    FRAMINGHAM – The Massachusetts Senate today voted in favor of Senate Bill 2014, An Act relative to motor vehicle license suspension, Senator Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland) announced.

    This bill repeals the current law that subjects individuals convicted of a non-violent drug offense to an automatic license suspension for up to five years and a license reinstatement fee of $500, even if the offense does not involve motor vehicles in any way. Thirty-four states, including every other New England state, have already taken action to repeal similar laws.

    The bill would have no effect on license suspension penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, and only removes the outdated state requirement that penalizes every drug offense with (more…)

    Access Framingham is looking for a few Framingham residents to be News Anchors, Reporters, or Segment Producers and help tell the stories of our neighborhoods.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Calling all middle and high school students! Tell us what you love about our town by writing a 500 word essay.

    Include three or more features of Framingham that you love. Possible topics; your school, Framingham Public Library, Framingham sports, our history, multicultural community, or something you love about the town.

    All essays will be awarded a thank you gift. One winning essay from each middle & high school will be chosen and read by the author at the Deluxe Depot Diner, Thursday February 26th, 2015 at 6:00pm.

    20% of proceeds to be donated to the Framingham Public Library Foundation.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – In spite of the recent cold spell, the ice conditions of many bodies of water across the Commonwealth remain uncertain, as demonstrated by the recent ice rescues of a number of individuals and pets. Therefore, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has issued information regarding safety precautions to be taken on our frozen lakes, rivers and ponds.

    “Before we experience a tragedy that is unfortunately too common this time of year, it is important that we remind everyone, particularly children, of the dangers of unsafe ice,” said MEMA Director Kurt Schwartz. “People may be a bit impatient and venture out on the ice for skating, hockey, ice fishing and other winter sports before understanding the conditions. We highly recommend the use of recreational skating areas provided by the Commonwealth and your local communities. It is very important to exercise precaution and common sense.”
