    Dr. Monifa Charles Appointed Framingham Public Health Director

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — Dr. Monifa Charles, DHSc, MSP, MPA, has been appointed as Framingham’s new Director of Public Health.

    Dr. Charles has worked in public health for the last 18 years, most recently working for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Service Office in Raleigh, where she identified innovative models of care and collaboration in underserved areas.

    Framigham MBTA / Commuter Rail Service passengers still required to wear face masks.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The MBTA is reminding customers that face coverings are required while onboard vehicles, in stations and facilities, on platforms and bus stops, and anywhere within the MBTA system for all riders, including those who have been fully vaccinated.

    On May 13, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updated guidance regarding face coverings for fully vaccinated individuals, noting that, “fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask.”

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — A series of interrelated litigation matters over the past several months has come to an end with the First Circuit Court of Appeals affirming summary judgment in favor of the City of Framingham and former Police Chief Kenneth Ferguson, who retired in 2018. In two separate lawsuits by a former and current member of the Framingham Police Department, both officers’ claims were dismissed in their entirety. Stuart v. Framingham, 989 F. 3d 29 (1st Cir. 2021), and Gutwill v. Framingham, 2021 U.S. App. LEXIS 11020 (1st Cir. Apr. 24, 2021).

    FSU RAMS Baseball Splits Double Header with Worcester State

    FRAMINGHAM, MA -The Framingham State University baseball team walked off with a 3-2 victory in game two of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) double header with Worcester State University this afternoon at Bowditch Field. The Lancers edged the Rams 4-2 in the opener.

    In the opener, the Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Robert Johnston led off the inning with a double and moved to third on an out. Bobby Higgins was hit by a pitch putting runners on the corners. Higgins stole second and Johnston took home on the back end of double steal.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Motorists are advised that there may be construction work being performed during daytime hours on the following roads in Framingham during the week of May 9th – May 15th, 2021. Please note: Construction schedules are weather permitting and subject to change.

    Edgell Road Gas Main Replacement – Eversource gas will continue replacing gas main on Edgell Road between the Nobscot intersection and Donovan Drive. Expect moderate delays. Lane shifts and/or a one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect.

    U.S. DHS Extends Real ID Deadline to 2023

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Today the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) extended the deadline to update your Massachusetts (or other state) ID or Drivers License to a “Real ID” to May 3rd, 2023.

    Prior to today’s extension, Real ID was to be required to fly within the United States or enter federal buildings after October 1st, 2021.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Water Department will begin conducting its Spring 2021 Water Main Flushing Program on Monday, May 3, through Friday, June 18, 2021.

    Water Main flushing will occur from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in residential areas and 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., in business areas. The purpose of the program is to improve drinking water quality for residents and businesses in Framingham.

    FRAMINGHAM, MA – Framingham has been selected by Eversource, its local electric and gas utility, to participate in the Mass Save® Municipal Partnership Program for the second consecutive year. Through the program, Framingham will strengthen its efforts to support and empower all residents and businesses to save energy, cut costs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through Mass Save®.

    Framingham’s participation in the program this year builds on 2020 efforts in which it exceeded its participation goals with more than 300 no-cost energy assessments conducted for small businesses, over 550 weatherization projects for residents that will help them improve their comfort and reduce energy costs, as well as over 600 heating and cooling system upgrades completed in local homes and businesses.

    FSU Rams Softball Soars Past Fitchburg State 8-7 and 12-4

    FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham State University softball team belted a combined 22 hits including a pair of home runs as the Rams swept Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader at Maple Street Field. The Rams walked off with an 8-7 victory in the opener before soaring to a 12-4 six inning victory in game two.

    In the opener, the Rams grabbed the early lead on a two run home run to left center off the bat of Kirsten Dick.
    The Falcons plated four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-2 advantage. Morgan Cormier launched a solo homer to left and the Falcons proceeded to load the bases with no outs. Molly Grass followed with an RBI fielder’s choice and an infield single and error allowed the final two runs to score.
