FRAMINGHAM, MA – A collaboration with Friends of Saxonville and the Framingham Cultural Council, will fund the creation of two murals on the Sudbury River Floodgates between 1545 and 1555 Concord Street in Framingham.
The theme for these murals is an artistic interpretation of the Sudbury River’s importance to Saxonville’s founding and emergence as an industrial mill hub for Framingham.
The winning proposal(s) will receive $5,000 per floodgate ($10,000 total).
Artists may apply individually or as a team. Artists can apply to complete one of the floodgates or both. The artist(s) will be responsible for covering all costs associated with supplies and installation.
The theme of these murals is an artistic interpretation of the Sudbury River’s importance to Saxonville’s founding and emergence as an industrial mill hub for Framingham. Submitted proposals should be colorful, creative murals that encourage pedestrians to stop, pause, reflect on Saxonville’s history, and imagine its future. The murals should engender happiness and hope in the community.
Timeline:
• May 24, 2021 – Call for proposals
• June 30, 2021 – Deadline for proposals to be received
• July 9, 2021 – Announcement of winning proposal(s)
• August 31, 2021 – Deadline for mural completion
