Cirkestra and Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band: Dueling Circus Bands Battle To the Death!
Two rival circus music groups take the stage for one night to settle the score. It will be an evening of high energy instrumental music performed by some of the best known musicians in this genre. In the final act all 15 musicians; accordions, trumpets, violins, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, drums, banjos, clarinets, and more will take the stage simultaneously for an unprecedented display of musicianship. Cirkestra is a five‐piece ensemble which started as the pit band for Circus Smirkus and toured the country playing hundreds of shows under the big top. They’ve created 4 original scores for circuses which are available on CD and for download. The members of the group have performed with Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus, Big Apple Circus, Kinoshita Circus of Japan, and Bindlestiff Cirkus. Their Klezmer, Balkan, and Tango influenced instrumentals have been heard in numerous television shows and movies globally. Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band is an instrumental ensemble with an eclectic repertoire that combines the rich musical history of the circus and the vagabond peoples of Europe with the raw energy of free jazz and the irreverence and fun of today’s vaudeville for a sound that is somehow familiar yet like no other.
