New Years Eve Comedy Show With Brian Kiley, Joe Wong And Derek Gerry at Amazing Things Arts Center, Framingham, MA
Wednesday, Dec 31 8:00p Price: $20 (Stu/Sen $19, Mem $17)Brian Kiley won his first Emmy Award in 2007 as a staff writer for Late Night with Conan O’Brien. In addition to his long-term writing stint for Conan, Kiley is one of the best and most prolific comedians on television, with more than 28 standup performances on national programs, including The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and his own Comedy Central special. He has written for the ESPN Espy Awards, and two of his jokes were included in GQ Magazine’s “75 Greatest Jokes of All Time.” He’s a six-time Writer’s Guild Award winner (writing in a comedy/variety series) and his jokes were included in the Sept. 2007 Reader’s Digest “Laugh Riot Funniest Issue Ever.” The self-styled “All American Immigrant,” Joe Wong has come a long way from rosy-eyed American newcomer to a comedian blossoming into stardom on the Boston comedy scene. Since his surprise finish in the finals at the 2003 Boston Comedy Festival, the native of China has been one of the busiest comedians in New England. That year, he was also the star of Joe Huang for President, a hysterically funny short film that won the first place award at the Cambridge Fringe Fest. He works in theaters, fundraisers and other shows around Boston. On his resume, under “other skills,” he notes that he speaks better English than President Hu (of China). Derek Gerry has shared his sardonic, intelligent view of life’s absurdities with audiences from around New England, performing at clubs such as the Comedy Studio and Comedy Connection. He began performing standup in fifth grade at the legendary Ding Ho in Cambridge, where he was told that he was too young to enter the club and that he should “scram,” only to return to the Boston comedy scene two decades later. He knows more about home electronics than most Radio Shack employees and boasts a collection of obscure records that he assaults the airwaves with weekly on WMFO, 91.5 FM in Medford.
